Description I’m just a name in an obituary
No one will remember me
I died on a cold day in February
Back in 1973
I was on a long haul
Coming back from Utah
Heading down into San Antone
I sung His praises
When I left Texas
Lord, I was on my way back home

Oh, but the river runs deep in the land of Sin
And I’ve been wading with both feet in
Way over my head since I was just a child
I told myself I was an old southern rebel
When I danced a few rounds with a pretty little devil
But that was back when I used to let myself run wild

And there’s no light at the end of my tunnel
Just a one way ticket to an afterlife of trouble
A lonely stretch of highway with no route of escape
Well, someone spare my dear sweet mother
She’s already suffered the loss of my brother
And another Hellbound son is more than she can take

Oh, Calvary
Oh, Calvary
Jesus, come quickly, and save me; save me
Oh, Calvary
Oh, Calvary
Jesus, come quickly, and save me; save me
