Description I took a break.

I took a break for my heart
to splinter back into one,
formed some wholeness
I’d long abandoned
when I jumped ship
into these grown up forays.

I foraged in the wild
losing myself
in the foliage, in the depths
of despair, in his arms
the arms that curled
but never caught.
Never wanted to be tangled.

His hello warned me

Don’t get too close.
You will lose, again
you have always lost
yourself, in arms that wouldn’t
hold you tight, all in the hopes of
finding something.

She told me some things end
something. I smiled. A sad knowledge
permeating the air, humidity damp cheeks
as growing up becomes euphemism
for growing better.
Sugarcane strong. Bamboo hollow.

Roots take flight.

Snip, snip, snippets of dreams
endings easily predicted,
maybe self fulfilling prophecies are
more common than expected,
I slip into flight mode.
His gentle coaxing warns me.

I am used to shallow men, caterpillars
transforming the moment I’ve opened
myself up, and loss. Massive loss, that has taught
me to close myself down. Never knowing
that I was waiting
until the beginning, I stumbled.

Two paths that diverged

I took the one more travelled by,
made a difference in the way
I spent years, trying
to make up to, make up for
something that ended
some things.

Took a breath, let them go;
the hello’s that taught me I am
bamboo strong. Took a bite of sugarcane
and let the sweetness fill me.
Smiling, as two paths merged.
I took a break and learnt

I deserve some things.
