Description Here are other characters from my original comic, "Anime-Tamae!"
They are Bultungin and Tigre Capiango, a Were-Hyena and a Were-Jaguar!
With Hantu-Tetek and American kitsune Miko (and another character not yet shown),

They form "The World Yokai Legion", and challenge Mikos and Yokais of Japan!

You may notice I draw both of em with big booty...
Yes, Mangas from Japan need more big butts

[About a translation]
This is a "Trial" translation by myself.
Helping for more natural english is welcome!
Especially...
In the original page, Tigre Capiango have shout とうっ! Toh!!
animetamae.com/07L/0809.htm
It should be sounds like a shout of Masked Rider (or Kamen Rider).
Anyone know how to write it in English?

It's rare to see black and other ethic backgrounds in a manga. Kudos to you for going this extra mile. I'm also in love with Bultungin's over all design, as well as, the butt. You just got yourself another watcher. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Well, seems I'm sufficiently late to the party...
Others have already said everything that I would have regarding spelling and grammar in translations to the English language ^_^'
But progress is progress, so I can't complain lol
That being said, your belief that manga lacks a focus on big butts, and your efforts to remedy that, have put you squarely on my list of heros X3
As an ass-man myself, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see another such individual overseas. Please know that I'll be keeping an eye on this project! I love these characters, and you've done a fantastic job with each of their designs! The 'monster girl' theme is one I've seen done quite often, but never before have I seen anyone approach it the way you have! Simply amazing!
I'm a hobbyist writer, but I major in literature at university, so I'll happily lend a hand if ever I have an opportunity.
Keep up the great work!
And more phat butts, please XD

Ooo, very original and interesting characters! I love Tigre Capiango's really loud personality haha.
They're both delicious brown~ Makes me wonder what other nationalities/countries are going to be shown! (I'm happy America is chosen though)
Were-Hyena has got me worrying about Hyena genitalia, and how females basically have clitorises the size/function of penises... geeeh..
As for the とうう! sound, I'd recommend.. well, the closest English sounding shout is "HOH!" (by "English sounding", I mean we largely see it as a foreign shout... at least in movies), but it also sounds like a laugh or a taunt, especially without the second H. Another way around it would simply be typing it in romanji, as it may transition well! "Touh!!"
archangelshear did a good job on the Were-Hyena's panel, as she did seem a bit urgent/odd to me. But I got the general idea of what she's saying just fine.
Great work!!

I've added "Touh!!" for Tigre's panel.
I love androgynous characteristic of female hyena, but that it another story...(because this comic is not X-rated! hehe)

archangelshear [2014-12-27 06:32:11 +0000 UTC]

とうっ, huh....

That one's difficult. In a similar situation, an English-speaker might not even say anything at all. If I were translating this, I'd probably leave that line until the end. At the very least, I'd do the rest of the chapter first. I'd need a better understanding of how here character talks before I'd feel comfortable picking a translation.

Also, I'd add an "a" to Tigre's second line there. "My dream is to become *a* Henshin Rider!" It sounds very awkward otherwise. As for the phrase"Henshin Rider" itself, it's so distinctively Japanese that I wouldn't bother changing it. The average American won't know what it means, but the average American probably won't be reading your comics to begin with. Your English-speaking audience consists mostly of people who are already interested in Japan and Japanese culture, and those people will know what you're talking about. If I absolutely had to translate it, I'd either go with "Power Ranger" or just "hero," but both of those translations have problems. "Henshin Rider" is probably your best bet.

Thirdly, the phrase "as soon as possible" has a lot of urgency to it. 「早く」より「できるだけ早く」って言うの意味を表している。 This is a quick translation, but "Um...I'd really like to visit a Japanese bookstore or library soon..." seems like a better fit for the line. Hope that helps!

RebisDungeon In reply to archangelshear [2014-12-27 06:53:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for your advices!
「とうっ!」 and "Henshin Rider" are difficult tasks.
Power ranger , or masked rider, may be good. But  I avoided to use such major titles, and made a fictional hero "Henshin Rider".

About Bultungin, your translation seems to be great!
I'll replace it with my trial text.

TheTeh [2014-12-27 04:24:21 +0000 UTC]

I am very impressed with the amount of variety and attention to detail here. It's hard to find references about these monsters, so it's great to see them get some love! I especially like the Capiango's desire to be a masked hero, since changing form is what skinwalkers are all about. Jaguar Mask has a nice ring to it, too.

Come to think about it, shapeshifting animals are really an universal element in folklore, aren't they? Japan has the foxes, the raccoon-dogs, the crane-wives and even humbler animals like mud snails and clams that feature in these iruikon-intan stories, Europe has selkies and the swan maidens, Africa has buffaloes and elephants transforming into humans, the Americas of course have the coyote and his many adventures and the Native American tribes tell stories of killer whales and salmon becoming beautiful girls and taking human husbands. Now that I check it, even my own folklore seems to have jackals and wolves that take human form.

So it seems there is one thing that the whole world can agree on: Animal-eared girls are the best!

A great examination, and a powerful conclusion!!
I'm interested in legends of buffalos and elephants in Africa.
Would you tell me if there are some online resources?

TheTeh In reply to RebisDungeon [2014-12-27 11:53:31 +0000 UTC]

Here is an outline of the buffalo-woman story (and an alternative take of an African author on it). It is of Yoruba origin; the buffalo girl is usually revealed to be the storm-spirit Oya while her husband, the hunter, is sometimes the blacksmith Ogun. The legend is similar in principle to stories about human men marrying seals, swans or celestial maidens by stealing their fur, feathers or robes, only to have their wives leave after they find their missing garments.

books.google.com/books?id=bdKe…

The elephant-woman story is also similar; a man finds an elephant-skin while hunting and hides it, and he later finds a beautiful woman crying because she lost her clothes. He offers to buy her new clothes and later takes her as his wife, but she eventually finds her old elephant-skin and turns back into an elephant to return to her forest. These stories often tend to end on a sad note, but in this case she and the hunter in fact leave on amiable terms, and she bears many strong children from their union. Here's a link to an example:

books.google.com/books?id=4Qiq…

Elephants and water-buffaloe also figure into other legends in Africa. South African folklore even speaks of a snake-elephant monster called Grootslang, a creature so mighty that its powers had to be split between the snake and the elephant. It kind of reminds me of the Thai fish-elephant, Chang Nahm.

It's a pity African myths are so hard to track down and source. There's no doubt a really rich folklore there, most of it unavailable to us. The elephant-girl in particular strikes me as a physically imposing but shy and reserved lady, kind of like Kancolle's Harbour Princess, but I can find virtually no information about her except that one particular story.

I love both a Buffalo Girl and Elephant Girl from Africa.
They will be great Yokai characters!

I know Grootslang via internet sites.
It is very interesting creature. I feel it is difficult to draw it as girl, but it may be awesome Yokai hero or villain.

Ah, so cuuute! I love Tigre!

You want help with the English, right? I don't really know Japanese so I can't really help with a 'proper' translation, but I sure can help your sentence structure and grammar in English!

Starting with Tigre, right off the bat you spelled the word future wrong, minor mistake. The word future might not even need to be used in that sentence since a dream is usually considered something you achieve in the future anyway. However, having the word in the sentence does nothing bad so you can keep it without messing up!

As for the 'henshin rider' part, I'm not really sure how to work with that one since most people don't usually use that. Maybe just being called a superhero would be an equivalent?

And one more grammar error, Blutungin should say either *I* come from Nigeria or ... *and I* come from Nigera. Just by adding another word or two changes the sentence completely!

I hoped I helped a bit... at least a little!

I was all like "no way is that an agentina t shirt?" And then i read this page and she is really using it  ! Yeah sorry. I guess is a tigre = jaguar, because there is a tiger call yaguarete, or jaguarete (I'm pretty much sure is a guarani word ) . maybe is jaguar because sound similar?
Oh and i forgot to tell you .Kick ass work man  .

About Tigre, Jaguar and Yaguarante.
Yes, Tigre=Jaguar. I read about Tigre-Capiango in "EL LIBRO DE LOS SERES IMAGINARIOS", written by Jorge Luis Borges. (Of course the book was Japanese translated edition)
So it may be something odd to Argentina people, Borges sensei said Tigre-Capiango is Were Jaguar (at least in the book I read...)

Sorry. It just was weird for me to se a character using an argentina t shirt.
I'm from Argentina, live in a city/district  call Tigre, so i was surprised to see it.
You are right the name is that, but in guarani language. the name is yaguarete aba. And was some kind of shaman who can transform in a were jaguar (but you probably already know that.) But there were other who can become a puma for example.

thanks for answer (whenever i write to someone in deviant, i feel like a fan boy  ) I'm inspired now i'm gonna draw an Agura guazu girl  .

About Bultugin: Not exactly. A female hyenna is really aggresive about her cubs. Always would fight against other females and males to get food for them to produce milk. That aggresiveness comes of a lot of testosterone. That makes them really muscular and big in comparision of males and, also... well, that much testosterone has another side effect you probably know very well: female hyennas develop fake penises ^_^U

About Tigre Capiango, if it's something about the good ol' Borges, i won't say anything. Only "Tigre" (as i said, it's "tiger") and Jaguar are completely different species.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TheTeh In reply to JeshuaMorbus [2014-12-27 03:57:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, since you've mentioned the pseudopenis, I should add this: The hyena is not the only animal where females have a huge phallic appendage! There's a worm, called Sphaerularia, that has its womb evert and become a giant, tubercle-covered tentacle that may be up to fifteen thousand times the size of the worm, so large that naturalists first thought that the worm's reproductive apparatus was the worm itself. Females of some feather mites and the barklouse Neotrogla also have tubular appendages that they insert into the male, which has an inverted reproductive organ, in order to copulate.

By the way, folklore may often be confused about what kind of big cat a big cat is, so sometimes a tiger may well be a jaguar! The story of Capiango is also very specific on it being a sorcerer that wears a jaguar-skin to transform into the animal, and in any case the creature is from Argentina, where the only big cats around are the jaguar and the cougar.

This kind of misidentification is common in folklore, but if you want some lighthearted biological interpretations on some mythological beasts, I recommend a recent book called Cryptozoologicon. It has, among other things, a giant marine platypus misidentified as a plesiosaur and an awesomely ridiculous explanation for the Zuiyo Maru carcass (it wasn't a decayed shark that looked like a sea monster, it's a sea monster that looks like a decayed shark to lure its prey!)
