This is walfasized PPK-42(rus. Пистолет-пулемёт Калашникова, translit.Pistolet-pulemyot Kalashnikova; Kalashnikov's Submachine gun) - submachine gun with a delayed blowback created by Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1942. It was the second his developed models of weapons (first sub-machine gun, which used withdrawal of powder gases, not preserved).
While healing in the hospital, Sergeant Kalashnikov had the idea of creating his automatic weapons. He began to make sketches and drawings, comparing and analyzing his own impressions of the battle, the opinions of comrades in arms, the content of the books of Hospital Library. Tips of unknown Marine Lieutenant were useful, cause before the Great Patriotic War he worked in some scientific research institutes, who knew the system of small arms and the history of their creation.
By the direction of doctors was sent on a six-month follow-up care. Back in Matay, he, with the help of specialists, three months later created a prototype of his first model submachine gun(not extant).
From Matay M. T. Kalashnikov was sent to Alma-Ata, which produced a perfect example in the training workshops of the Moscow Aviation Institute, evacuated to the capital of Kazakhstan. Later, the sample was introduced to the chief of the Military Engineering Academy n.a. Dzerzhinsky A. A. Blagonravov - an outstanding scientist in the field of small arms, who was at that time in Samarkand,.
Although Blagonravov review was generally negative, he said original and interesting design and recommended the senior sergeant Kalashnikov for further study. Later Kalashnikov submachine gun was presented in the Main Artillery Administration of the Red Army. Noting some of the shortcomings and generally successful design, the experts did not recommend taking GAU Kalashnikov SMG adopted for technological reasons.
