Well, this guy took way longer than I'd have liked, but at least he turned out in the end!After the Original Goron Contest hosted by *croix22 , I found myself marvelling at the massive variety of characters displayed in the eighteen entries. So now as a personal challenge, I shall be drawing a portrait of every single entry. I don't think I've quite realized what I've gotten myself into here.
This is the third of eighteen. Dargorna, created by !Midna-lover11 [link] : a towering mass of muscled half-dragon Goron who guards over the Death Mountain Crater.

I'm amazed how well you translated and improved on the design while EVERY element is still there from the original.
What is it that you come to like about Gorons and made you uhm pick them as subjects

Gorons are just creatures I've found to be a valuable learning experience, and the more I draw them, the more I learn. Ever since I started drawing them, I've learned how to improve on male anatomy, the subtleties of muscles, and uncommon body types. They encouraged me to go outside of the boundaries I had set for myself before, and I keep trying to push further and do more as I learn. Currently I'm experimenting with body types and facial structures to try and make my Goron characters more unique, considering that I'm running out of ways to keep them separate by just backrock and tattoo designs.
Not to mention that Gorons are just plain awesome. I'm a huge fan of the gentle-giant persona, and a big all-male tribe of wrestling, rock-eating Bruddas is very appealing. I just wanna hug 'em~ >w< <3 Gorons are an original race (I've never really seen anything like them before), and their culture is a lot of fun to speculate on and add to. Plus, not a heck of a lot of people draw Gorons, so that just encourages me to draw them more to stand out against the norm.
...Man, I went all out with that explanation didn't I? *laugh* I just love Gorons and supporting the fandom as a Goron fangirl.

I always thought, much like Moblins are Zelda's "orcs"broadly, that Gorons were the 'Dwarfs' to the Zoras 'Elves' but with wonderful variations due to the basic but inspiring differences. The culture thing for one and the simple inhumanness mixed with approachability is another part. I mean a race that disguises as boulders, rolls around death mountain (I once majorly feared that place, its since become a scenic route but I'll always remember the original as I felt I was stepping into a killzone) for laughs, is only basically miffed like you just tugged their arm when you hit them with bombs, and of course eats rocks. Plus Darunia just felt the ...funnest of the big npcs. He's the only male you interact with significantly and your relationship with him seems to change. Plus he's a dad who named his son after you. Plus he looks so BADASS and funny/cartoony.

Definitely the Autobots from Transformers. Especially after seeing the new 2007 movie, I fell in love with these massive creatures fighting FOR humankind. I often wondered what it would be like to stand next to them, or even sit on their shoulder or in their hands without feeling scared of getting hurt. Bumblebee and Optimus Prime have always been my top two favourites~ <3
And agreed on all counts. Darunia was an amazing NPC, and completely lovable. I don't know how people could not like him! ^^

Closest thing i can compare him to would be a Charizard... Second closest would be a Wargreymon minus the metal armor.

Well, think about it... Wargreymon, upon his metal gear's destruction, would probably have great big wings, we know he has fists (from his battle against Diaboromon), etc.

I think Midna-Lover had a great idea for a Goron character, but I wish she'd given him a bit more background.
And yeah, his wings are pretty bulky. *laugh* Considering all that heavy Goron that needs to be lifted by them, I think that seems appropriate.
