I can see a couple of different stories behind this: First is a group of (pirates?) came to the island and started disturbing the cultures there. The wildlife teamed together in an effort to drive them away and succeeded. Secondly, it could be a love story, and the feline is one of the lovers who is not only trapped on the island, but becomes a feline at dawn. This is her watching her lover leave her behind.
