well, como estamos means "how are we?", como vai, tudo bem, etc, is more used, but it wasn't bad
actually I think it may be a little more used in Portugal...
tip: we brazilians are often too informal and lazy with language, the smaller the words/phrases, the better lol

lol Netherlands tried to invade the colony here, Portugal failed in beating it in a war too, then Netherlands invested money in our farms. And the famers were like, ok let's make money with Netherlands's business, at least this way we have benefits. Portugal fails again. But now really, once my teacher was saying Portugal was pretty unlucky most of the history, I mean the few times they won something they lost it all later. I almost feel sorry for them.

England only stayed here for only two years and gave us back to Spain because of some agreement between the two. We don't speak Spanish because Spain never got the intention to teach us any. Spain thought that we might use their language against them. And how can we understand each other? Some of Spain's men STUDIED our real native language (alibata) so they can communicate with us. As time went by our current language, Tagalog, formed by the combination of alibata and Spanish (yeah some our words originated from Spanish) Another reason is that Spanish is not part of the educational systems of most schools here. And since America (yep we were a colony of murica)was the first to introduce us to education, English has been part of it (and of course Tagalog)
So this os the reason why Filipinos are fluent in English. But believe me, we speak Spanish without knowing xD
