~Watercolor~2010~Finished this painting after returning from a trip to Arizona this spring. I'm looking forward to going back later in the fall.

The layers are done by, well, layering the paint, which can take a while, since you have to wait for it to dry before adding each layer. Watercolors are transparent, so when you put a layer down, the colors underneath will show through. To get the "whispy" look, it's all about leaving negative spaces and not putting paint down on the entire page. So the darker areas have more layers than the light.
