Description
Lara (short for Larunda) is a type of water nymph, or "Naiad."

Unlike mermaids, naiads pose no threat to humans (or similar beings). Instead, they are lively creatures that dwell near fresh waters. It is said that naiads are near-immortal beings. They can be harmed and even mortally wounded. Naiads are protectors of nature, communicating with the animals that live in the water. They typically welcome strangers and travelers to their home and have been known to sing and dance with people. They are also very protective of the lands that they watch over. If they feel threatened or if they believe that you are a danger to the land, they will not hesitate to kill.

Naiads do have mouths, but they are usually hidden. They have shark-like teeth and powerful jaws that can easily break through bone. Some have sharp spikes protruding from their bodies. These spikes are poisonous and can kill even a full-grown shark in seconds. Naiads also have sharp claws at the ends of their webbed fingers and toes. Despite these powerful hunting tools, naiads are omnivores and they rarely eat anything larger than a salmon.

Naiads are amphibious creatures that can live both under and above water without any problems. This is due to their ability to alternate between gill-like structures (located on their necks) and "normal" lungs. They are not excellent swimmers, but they can keep up with most fish and they are far faster than any human. They are not so capable on land, since they have long feet they can't run very fast. However they are strong creatures, very agile and graceful. Like all known nymphs, naiads are all female.
