Description Season 6 is generally considered to be the first main turn-off to most people, however I actually think this is one of the best post-S5 seasons. Yeah, I actually think this season is great!

The obvious factor for why this season isn't quite fantastic is because of the slow pacing and overall having a really ugly art design and animation. This season has a lot of scenes that drag on forever or just don't belong, such as that random scene with the brain from Penny Foolish. It's not like season 1 where the pacing would only be an issue in the occasional episode, here its persistent in most of the episodes. This issue prevented a couple of episodes from reaching an amazing rating since certain episodes such as Sun Bleached or Komputer Overload simply didn't have good pacing at all.

As for animation, this season by far has the ugliest animation in the show and this'll probably still be the case for quite awhile. The coloring got extremely downgraded, it is barely vibrant and really pale with some exceptions (mainly the episodes toward the end). There are more animation errors, this was an issue that started with S5 but became more apparent here with such obvious examples like the belly drum from Krabby Road or when the Krusty Krab went in lockdown in Patty Caper. The animation became extremely stiff, later post-movie is known for not having all that interesting animation but here there barely seemed to be any expression at all outside of gross-out (another persistent thing about this season that really annoys me). Overall, the animation of this season isn't appealing at all and one of the factors that does make this season seem worse.

Outside of those two complaints, this season for the most part excels in one thing: comedy. This season is hilarious. There are many episodes here that make me laugh just as hard as some of the pre-movie episodes. The style of humor is a bit different, using more anti-humor techniques or dragged out jokes, but these work well thanks to comedic timing, even if there are times where it doesn't work (throat-clearing gag from Choir Boys say hi). Although the ideas are a bit downgraded, with more Squidward Tortures taking up the episode space or episodes that focus on flanderization (such as Penny Foolish or Plankton's Regular), in-general this season's comedy allowed a lot of these episodes to garner high ratings.

Speaking of Squidward Tortures, yeah that is something that this season is known for since there are A LOT of them here. What do I think? Well, these episodes are HILARIOUS! These episodes are packed with laughs, many of them still make me burst out of laughing to this day. Sure, maybe some of them have problems like the ending of Cephalopod Lodge being way too cruel to Squidward, but I think this season knew how to make most of these episodes work in a comedic route rather than just unnecessarily torturing him to death (Choir Boys is the exception, though this was more boring than actually hard to watch lol).

I noticed that this season started to improve a lot toward the end. The episodes up to Pet or Pests were definitely a lot more mixed though I would still say the season was great, but the last couple of half hours was where the season really shined with its plots and humor, giving us masterpieces like Sand Castles in the Sand and Chum Bucket Supreme. I feel like in-general, the first half packed a lot more of this season's average problems than the latter half, plus this half has the first major dud of the show, The Card. If you want a summary of how I feel about this episode, I just think this episode is Patrick at his worst by far, the episode is annoyingly repetitive and just downright cruel to SpongeBob for no real reason, plus a bad twist ending that just makes for an overall horrible package. These duds will become more common later in the show, so I guess I should be glad this season only had one.

This is a season with good and bad. For all the hilarity comes the cost of some really unappealing animation and some repetitive storylines. Obviously, since comedy is the main thing I'm looking for in this show, season 6 definitely gets a high grade because this season can make me laugh just as much as the previous seasons. It's just that there's these bad factors that weren't there previously that this season had a problem with that brought this one down. So I think of this as a "semi-classic" season, or transitional season, from the classic era to the new era (not that the new era is bad, just vastly inferior).
