Another ring made from premo! Sculpey polymer clay. Believe it or not, the glass for the eye is Lt. Blue! No kidding! Cannot tell it, though. All color is metallic "Folk Art" acrylic paint, including the reverse-painting for the eye (except the black, of course). I made the tool for creating the scales out of a flattened nail (shaped the end with a dremel).
This ring was supposed to be a size 11, but somehow ended-up as a size 9. ((((shrug))))

I like the pattern and the metallic colors. How do they (the rings) hold up under normal wear and tear? Do they have any internal armature?

...oh, and no internal armatures, just all-clay (less the stone).

Thank you very much! I have only had these on display on my mantle. I have only made a few. I have never worn any of these for any length of time, so I really can't say how they hold up under normal wear and tear.

How long do you have to bake the sculpey to get it to harden? And how hot? I imagine that it can't be too hot or the marble might break.

Sculpey has several formulas, I'm using their high-end product called "premo!"; This particular clay needs to be baked at 275Β° for 30 minutes. (as long as it's a quarter of an inch thick or less) Just to add -- I placed a piece of paper underneath the ring, so that there would not be a shiny spot where it was resting against the pan that I had it on. Paper will not burn or scorch at this temperature.

OMG!! This is AWESOME! The iris is extraordinary and I love your choice of colors on the ring itself. This is really amazing. I love it!

Thank you very much Chris! I didn't do any blending of colors on the ring itself, like I usually do. Perhaps I'll try another one soon, because this one ended up the wrong size, and I'd also like to do another one with blending. (and perhaps with slightly smaller scales)
I don't know, we will see...
