The thing I've enjoyed most about RedThousand's recent creations is this oil-pastel style. I am impressed that he was able to capture this "feel" digitally. This piece in particular is remarkable in the shading of the featured subject. In general it is very smooth and yet it has texture to it, something which I find rarer and rarer around the 'Nation.
The bright colors pop off the page at you. Her outfit is very detailed, as is her skin. I like the use of orange and blue (contrasting colors) for her outfit -- it makes both colors look that much brighter.
The critiques I would give involve refining the background so that it looks as though the same amount of attention was paid to it as was to the subject of the image. As it is, the character and the background seem as if they were taken from two separate images and then glued together. The same could be said for the character's shadow on the ground.
As with many artists, hands seem to be hard spot for this artist. I like the hair on her (and think it gives her character to have it covering her eyes), but it would be nice to see it have a more "hairy" texture. As it is, it seems to be the same texture as her skin and some of her clothing.
I would also recommend removing the "jump lines" (or perhaps they're meant to be hover lines?) and the text in the upper right-hand corner.
Again, to get back to my original purpose and sentiment for writing this critique, I think this is a moderately accomplished piece. With a little tweaking (and a little practice) I think you could have a wall-hanging quality image here e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sโฆ " width="15" height="15" alt="

Honestly, I sort of did glue the two pictures together, digitally. I was looking for a rough background, but it turned out better than I expected, so I just put a filter on the background layer that said "cartoon". Well, after I turned the blue sky green to match the idea of a planet with an atmosphere that made the sky green ย and the sunlight purple.ย
The background actually lined up with Nona and her shadow accidentally.
As for the oil pastel effect, it was achieved with the smudging tool on the program I used. I like grit of the pencil, so the line art is only enhanced by contrast and then becomes something filled in by the color bucket at dialed down opacity.
I'll try to enhance this piece. Thanks for the critique. Its actually the first I've gotten.

ย I did a major overhaul. Not sure if this counts as a different picture or a steep update, so I just submitted it as a new piece. I figured some poeple would prefer the more tame version.
