Description Drawing realism = <3

I'd been working on this thing for over two weeks; I started pretty much the night I got back from the China trip. I missed using colour... so I drew this. Obvious influences come from China. Other than a few (major!) issues with perspective, I'm quite pleased, but crits are always welcome ;3

The bird on the left was one that I often saw around temples and the like, and I tried to ask the Chinese/English teacher what was its name and showed him a blurry photo of it. Only when I got back did I realise he had given me the wrong name (that chinese name, bird of happiness, actually meant "magpie"), and I'd already gotten rid of the blurry photo, so I pretty much had to draw that bird from memory. Um, ouch. So the anatomy of the bird on the left will probably be way-off, but the markings should be all right. ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE NAME OF THAT BIRD, PLEASE TELL ME.

The bird on the right isn't the tiniest bit Chinese. It's an Australian native red wattlebird, but I like red wattlebirds so there.

The creature in the centre is based on something I saw in a jewllery shop. It was a lump of blood-red jade carved to be a griffin-like creature that had a split tail and a single horn. Well, I was intrigued so I asked around and eventually found out it was called Pi Xiu, which is meant to bring wealth to your home if you buy it.

And when we went to China, it was Autumn, so I didn't have the opportunity to take really cliched photos and drawings of cherry/plum/randomflower blossoms. Which is probably a good thing During the descent of Mount Tai, though, it was wonderful just looking at the little yellow leaves falling... while all the other people in our group are charging head-long down the million million steps like it was some sprinting race or something, me and Sophie (who /had/ to take it easy coz she got a blood nose) took lots of breaks and didn't bother with "speed", just with... "enjoying the scenery". lawl. But we alllll got sore legs anyway.

From this angle, it looks like the birds are gigantic or something... I meant to have them in the foreground, really close to the viewer, looking down at the pi xiu. Blarhg xP

And I usually don't bother to do borders, seemed a bit of a waste of time, but this was an exception x3

Image copyright me. Zomg, I actually put my name on it this time. But that goes without saying, don' it? Whether an image has a copyright symbol or not, it's still completely illegal to edit or redistribute it in any way.
