Dr. Wily's greatest creation, designed to be far superior in all regards to Mega Man and Bass. However, his violent and disobedient behavior led Wily to seal him in a capsule where he stayed for a century. Following a fateful fight with Sigma, Zero's destructiveness subsided and he became a high-ranking Maverick Hunter and friend of X. His main long-range weapon, the Zero Buster, is much more powerful than the base X-Buster.

Why shoot an arm cannon when you can swing a sword? A laser sword, on top of that. The Z-Saber, also known as the Beam Saber, is Zero's signature weapon, an extremely powerful energy blade. It was given to him after he was rebuilt by the X-Hunters, and he carries it with him in every appearance since, including the Mega Man Zero series. What it lacks in range in comparison with the Zero Buster, it makes up for it with power and style.

Zero first appeared in Smash as an Assist Trophy in Ultimate, slashing with the Z-Saber, and when it's time for Zero to depart, he unleashes Genmu Zero. Mega Man is surprised to see that his friend Zero made it into Smash this way, and Zero feels weird knowing that X is an Assistant Trophy in Mega Man's Final Smash. He also feels weird that Dr. Wily is here as well, and there's a slight chance that he may face his creator in a match. Even if he doesn't, Mega Man will make sure to help when he gets the chance, and if he faces Zero himself, he'll consider it a friendly competition.
