Is that the only function of the Layer Clipping?Β
I've been trying to translate a bunch of SAI Β tutorials into GIMP, and so far it seems like "Layer Clipping" Is basically just using the selection tool so you can't draw outside the lines?

Hi!Β
From what I can tell, it's like using the selection tool with the selection tool being what you've already laid down. While I don't use SAI anymore as I work on a Mac now, Medibang Paint and Procreate (I believe Procreate as well) both use clipping layers. And with that, it's basically just adding on top of the layer that was already there, so yes, it does not go out of the lines.

Okay i was hoping that, it sounded like some special exclusive tool haha, now i know i can easily replicate it on GIMP im not as worried. I too use a Mac (unfortunately), so i've found real limitation on programs available for free that would help me more than GIMP does

why my sai is showing opacity lock, layer clip and selection source instead of preserve opacity, clipping group ???
and how can i show the clipping group??

I'm pretty sure that it's the same thing (and that's just my educated guess, ahaa). Therefore, Opacity lock= preserve opacity, and clipping group= layer clip. Let me know if it's not accomplishing the same thing.

Why does my layer end up invisible when I clip it?

It shouldn't!Β Which layer is invisible?

I do not, to be honest haha.. and I haven't been working in SAI as of late.Β If you tell me the layer modes, I may be able to explain what I remember~

Multiply, Screen, Lumosity, Overlay, Binary Color. Do those ring a bell?

Overlay-That overlaps the image under, erasing the outside white and goes into the color. Thats all I can explain.

Haha yea, the layers get a little confusing, I would just recommend just testing them all out!
