Description
Special thanks to jaromcswenson for both drawing this new commission pic and designing the mecha based on my general layout ideas and references. The bulk of the credit for the general mecha design itself goes to jaromcswenson
In this case, the Eurasian Coalition faction I made up was inspired by the Pan Asian Coalition ( Battlefield 2142) and Human Reform League ( Gundam 00).
I was also inspired by current real-world references, i.e. the BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which are encouraging a new Eurasian economic bloc (drive/idea led by Russia and China) to establish a new multipolar world order. Naturally, the current collective West (i.e. the US, EU/NATO, Australia and New Zealand(?) ) are staunchly against the idea of a new rival/alternative economic bloc that is more independent from the current, Western-based global financial and economic systems.
This real-world development and growing new bipolar(?) world inspired the idea of the Eurasian Coalition's main rival bloc, the Atlantic Federation. This reminds me of Gundam 00's factions, only the real-world inspirations so far look like Gundam 00's HRL (and maybe the rest of the world?) vs. the Union + AEU .
Differences Between Eurasian Coalition and Atlantic Federation Mecha Design Concepts:
Eurasian Coalition:
It's the idea of humanoid mecha being seen as another form of AFV, but in a humanoid bipedal form that also has hands. How most of the forearm-carried/-mounted weapons and shields are designed reflects that. Most of the weapons are fixed on the forearms so the majority of pilots would mostly focus on using, defending and aiming with their forearms. This might technically make training on how to use the mecha's actual hands secondary training, potentially simplifying training time and costs.
Atlantic Federation:
The idea is their mecha designs and approach reflect the more classic anime depiction of humanoid mecha and Western examples like Avatar's AMP Suit. Meaning they are like scaled-up extensions of the human body, like a suit of armour. This approach is reflected in the weapons and how most weapons are designed to be handled like scaled-up human firearms and maces that are handled with their mecha's hands, with some degree of fixed mounting on the forearms (but not to the same level as the Eurasian Coalition's forearm mountings). This could mean more diversity or dexterity due to greater use of the mecha's hands..... but could also mean more pilot training time and costs are needed, along with additional expenses for the mecha's arms and pilot handling tech for the hands and fingers.
