A smug and self-assured charismatic guy (in the sense that it elicits a sort of sense of pity), Ren is an attention seeker and fails miserably at being subtle about it. He acts like he's always right and finds any number of roundabout ways to back his claims - in a sense, he's actually a decent persuasive talker, and is alright at convincing people and presenting his arguments in a captivating way. His 'evidence' tends to blur the line between fiction and fact, and arguments tend to rely on logical fallacies. When he talks about, theories + potential explanations, including fictional media (filling plotholes, anyone?), Ren practically glows -- but any other time, he looks bored or sleepy, usually with a monitor or screen of some sort before his face. He acts 'cool', but takes himself too seriously and is usually embarrassing instead. Is a coward, but acts like tough shit, and has never really needed to back himself up.

Prior to the war, Ren had a lot of attention. He was an only child until about seven years old, when his younger sister Nina came into the world, and life readjusted to sharing his parent's attention.

It happened when Ren was nine. Growing up on the east coast did not mean he paid attention to politics as a child, but whatever it was, his family didn't like it. Whatever it was, his father insisted everyone pack their things and leave. From then on, Ren's family moved often. It became a process of relocating, settling down, re-establishing connections at a job - and whenever the gas threats came too close, they packed their things and left. Rinse and repeat. This went on for about three years until they finally settled into Argent, all the way on the other side of the former country called the "United States". There was no way to cross back now, anyways.

Neither of Ren's parents were drafted, thanks to their useful jobs during the wartime. His mother was a physicist who studied fluid dynamics, and his father, an electrical engineer. Ren's uncle's and aunts weren't so lucky. During their eventual relocation to the west coast, Ren's family picked up an additional three cousins, all of which were far younger than Ren himself. Suddenly, over the course of just three years, Ren went from being the beloved child to forgotten, as both the war, work, and the turbulent home life took precedence.

Ren's father's approach to keeping the family safe was simple: Going outdoors was dangerous. There was no warning for bomb threats or nerve gas, so he did his best to keep the children entertained at home. For the very young, there were simple books and cheap toys. For Nina, it was video games. At work, the department was moving on to more advanced tech at work anyways -- so Ren was given a computer, along with The Internet. Suddenly, there was no more need to pine for attention in an isolated environment from his busy parents when there was so much information at his disposal, when there were thousands of other people to listen to what he thought. Even after the Bagleys settled to Argent, the extreme indoor-only habit stayed, much to his family's relief.

By 18 years old, it was getting a little crowded in the house. When Ren was old enough, he started looking for a way to move out. His parents told him he ought to pursue higher education. After all, the only reason they were alive and unscathed was because their work was important- not like Uncle Brandon, a restaurant cook, who was now deaf and probably dead, who left behind two kids. Not like Aunt Em, a social worker, who was a single mother now, and probably dead. So long as he was continuing schooling, they said, they would support him financially. When he started college at 19, Ren moved into a room of his own.

‣ Ren is physically inactive. He's pretty much always in his room and takes online-only and hybrid courses. Even then, he almost never comes to class physically.
‣ A rumor-hunter. He's definitely joined the hypetrain about gravefall. He is knee-deep in forums, and has a bit of a following for having some pretty unlikely ideas but presenting them in an entertaining way. Sometimes, he will even go out of his way to actually go outside and investigate, if it's for the sake of "the truth".
‣ A huge conspiracy theorist. Parts of his worldview are influenced by his paranoid father.
‣ Not the healthiest. Irregular sleep, and cheap microwave food is a staple of his life. In comparison to most people though, he's in pretty great shape. He has no visible scars or nerve damage.
‣ He's pretty much always connected to the internet. If he's not on his desktop, he's on his phone.
‣ Ren has four 'siblings' - Nina (15), Eric (13), Tracy (13), and Mitch (10).
‣ In Argent, his family lived in a three-room house: one for parents, one for the common room (kitchen, livingroom, storage), and one for the kids.
