Tried Drawing both forms of Hex, Nessie and Shen for some practice, and then plunked them all down in one image. The sizes aren't quite right, and a few other things,Hex looks very dark, but it beats the skin colour that looked like a vampire.Related content

Thanks, glad its getting a bit better. Although Nessie (green) looks rather more psychotic. I need to go over them again and tweak some stuff I'm not happy with.

I'd say either "Emergence" for a series or "Heat of the Moment" for short story because I guess they're both more about life with magic and growing up than about adventures or transformations or anything.

I think you could improve Shen (dragon form). The light doesn't come from the same point than for Nessie and Hex, which is weird (it's true for the human form too). And his dragon form is a little too small...

I'd say Shen's closer to the right size and I made the others too big, but its easier to fix just him than the other two! Lights wrong because I wasn't quite planning to put them all together so close originally, I'll get it. Markings? I just failed at doing scales, I got bored by that point

Well the result is interesting for sure
If they were Shen's size, wouldn't they be able to slip out of their clothes instead of ripping them apart each time they unveil ?
And their faces, their faces ! If I tried with so few lines I would draw inhuman monsters instead of expressive children

I use a wacom bamboo tablet, and use GIMP because its free, and I'm a cheap bugger. I make 4 layers- a background, a sketch in light blue that I delete later, then a layer black firm lines that you see, and then a layer to colour it in and shade. I put them all together later, hence my stupid mistake with different lighting on Shen.
Size... I don't know, scale is hard, and reptile scales are also hard, as are weighing scales. I'm trying to use fewer lines, thats something I've seen on work I admire, you can tell where I get annoyed and hands or ankles just turn into a mess of lots of scribbles.
