Description A Battle And A Fusion

The humans of Thermon had had a long-standing feud with the humans who were known as the Snow People.  For many years the Snow people had tried to take Thermon, but even thought they had superior numbers, they were unable to penetrate the vast defences of the volcanic stronghold.  For most of the inhabitants of Thermon, these attacks were commonplace and happened all to frequently.

Laura and Decklan stood on a ledge halfway up the volcano that housed the city of Thermon.  Looking down onto the field, the twins seemed to come to a conclusion.
"Shall we Laura?"
"Do you really think we ought to? I mean it's not like we really need to any more."
"It always pays to stay in practice."
"Very well Decklan, I'll do this so you can have your fun."
The two twins joined hands and closed their eyes.  A glow spread from their joined hands, soon enveloping the both of them.  In a flash of blinding light, where the twins had stood there was now only one being.  It's long black hair caught in the artic wind and it crouched in a fighting pose.  With a mighty yell, the fused being known as Deckaura leapt of the ledge into the fray.

As Aether and Rael watched the battle unfold before their eyes, a flash halfway up the mountain caught their attention.  They saw Deckaura jump off the ledge and into the middle of the battle.
"What was that?  I've never seen anything like it!"
Aether looked surprised.  He laughed and grabbed Rael, pointing to where Deckaura had landed.
"The humans have finally developed fusion magic!  I would never had believed it if I hadn't seen it for my own eyes!"
"What's fusion magic?"
"Fusion magic is what happens when two beings' magical energies are parallel to each other.  When this happens, the two beings can fuse into a more powerful magic wielding being."
Rael look dumbfounded by this statement.  She only said one thing.
"Ah."

Deckaura landed in the battle and called elemental fire to it's hand. Flinging fire into the enemy and their massive white snow beasts, Deckaura made it's way back towards the entrance to Thermon, making a path for those soldiers that were massed by the Snow People.  Suddenly the flash of blonde hair caught it's eye.  As none of the humans of Thermon and the Snow People had anything lighter than a dark brown, it didn't take Deckaura too long to recognise the owners of that hair.
"So this is where they went, I should have known they would try to escape." Deckaura's voice sounded eerily across the battlefield, a mixture of Decklan and Laura's.
"I suppose I'd better go and fetch them."
Deckaura made it's way towards the two Ketrans.

As Aether and Rael stood on the battlefield, it didn't take long for one of the Snow People to take a chance to attack unarmed enemies.  Seeing her chance, a Snow People tribe member charged her snow beast across open field to attack Aether and Rael.  Aether saw the danger first, and quickly brought it to Rael's attention.  Rael automatically grabbed Aether's hand and tried to pull him back towards the city, but he held his ground.
"What are you doing Aether? We've got to run or we're dead!"
"Just a little closer...Rael let go and stand behind me."
Scared out of her wits, Rael did as she was told and crouched behind Aether.  Aether stood calmly, as the woman on the snow beast got closer and closer.  Suddenly he flung up his arms straight above his head and his flame-like aura appeared around him, showing the fact that he gathered magic from the world.  Seeing this, the woman slowed, not sure of what was going on.  Aether's aura dissipated and he brought his hand out perpendicular to his chest pointing at the woman.  A blast of pure force erupted from his hand and hit the woman full on, throwing her and her snow beast back into an approaching line of her own warriors.  Most fell over, but some still charged.  Aether grabbed Rael up off the ground and started walking towards where the fighting was thickest.  Rael followed Aether because she had no choice.
"What are we doing Aether? Thermon is the other way."
"I will not have this happen while I am around to stop it.  This is no way for civilised people to carry on."
"I don't understand!  What are you going to do?"
"You'll see.  One thing though, when it starts, stand as close to me as you can."
Wondering what Aether planned, Rael nodded and let herself be led by the hand.

Deckaura fought it's way to the gates leading some of the people of Thermon to safety, when it got to where Aether and Rael had been.  Looking around, it saw Aether and Rael forging ahead into the thick of the battle.  Shaking it's head, Deckaura walked nochantly into the battle again, following Aether and the protesting Rael.

As soon as they walked into the thickest clot of fighting, Aether let go of Rael's hand and flung his arms up. A sphere of glowing electricity-like magical energy expanded outward from his outflung arms and spread in a hemisphere around the two.  Anyone it touched fell to the ground, Thermons and Snow People alike.  Soon it covered the entire battle field.  After a moment or two, Aether's hands fell to his sides and he collapsed in the snow panting.  His body pulsed gold for a few moments and then it stopped.

Deckaura was halfway between Aether and the gates of Thermon when the field of magical energy  flowed out across the field.  Deckaura had only a few seconds before it too was enveloped by the growing field.  Instead of falling to the ground like the others around it, Deckaura split back into Decklan and Laura.  Standing there in the snow, they looked at each other.  Decklan spied Aether as he pulsed gold.  Pointing to him, he motioned to Laura to follow him.  Together they ran across to the snow.
"What exactly happened then?" shouted Decklan as he ran over to where Rael crouched on the ground beside Aether's slumped figure.
"I'm not sure, he just told me to stay still and then he did that."
Aether slowly got to his feet and leant on Rael for support.
"That was an energy field.  Good for stunning large amounts of people."
Laura kicked a snow beast and saw that it was still well and truly down for the count.
"So they're not dead then?"
"No."
"Oh well."
Aether removed his hand from around Rael’s shoulders and lurched off towards Thermon.  After a few steps he collapsed into the snow again.  Rael rushed over and helped him up.
"Takes it out of you, using that much magic in one go."
"You mean that was just you?" Decklan asked surprised that one person could have that much power.
"Yeah, but it would have been larger if I'd had more time.  Speaking of which, why aren't you two unconscious?"
"We were fused together.  When you hit us with the field, we broke apart."
"Ah.  So you two were that fused creature?  How long does it last?"
"What do you mean 'how long does it last'?"
"Well how long can you two stay fused until the spell wears off?"
"About an hour or so."
"Remind me after I've seen your headman and I'll give you something to lengthen the time.  A reward for nursing me back to health."
They walked a little longer, when Laura finally picked up on what Aether had said.
"What do you mean 'after I see your headman'?  Does he know you're coming?"
Aether chuckled under his breath.
"Rael and I will be arrested as soon as we walk in that door.  We set off the alarms as we ran through the checkpoint."

Sure enough, as soon as they walked in the checkpoint guard approached them and nodded to Decklan and Laura.
"You two sure did a number on those invading troops.  You're power really has grown."
"That wasn't us, that was this guy."
"Oh."  The checkpoint guard took a step towards Aether.
"Are you going to come quietly?"
"Yes, I'll come quietly."
Aether sighed and Rael and he were led away to the brig by the guard.
