Death Of A Hero

"What is this?"
Aether and Aenar had fused into one being.  Leaning down, the fused brothers helped Rael to the side of the room.
"Who are you?"
"I'm still Aether.  Aenar submitted his will as well as his power.  His last sacrifice to his people."
There was a crash as the dome on the fortress blew off and Kai stated beating the air with his four massive wings.
"Where's he going?"
"Outside into the air.  He doesn't have to worry about his injured foot slowing him down then."
Aether turned to look up out into the sky at where Kai now circled the fortress.  A beam of darkness blasted through the side of the hall from the air.
"Come out and play, Aether!"
Aether turned back to Rael.
"You have to leave Rael. It's going to get messy here."
"I won't leave you here all alone!"
"I need you to go back and get everyone to leave through the Gate Nexus.  If what I plan to do works, there won't be any of this planet left."
"You're not!"
"I may have to."
"Take this then."
Rael took one of the crystals off the thong at her neck.  It was the moonstone that Aether had placed on her chest when she had been dying.  She placed it in his hand and covered it with hers.
"Just some insurance that you'll come back in one piece."
Turning, she watched as Aether summoned enough magic to begin an Eldarin transformation.  Turning and running as Aether changed, she quickly flew out of the now empty ruins and flew with as much speed as she could muster to the mines and everybody there.

Kai had no idea what was waiting for him as he circled the ruined fortress.  Before he knew it, a giant dragon with scales the colour of platinum flew out into the sky before him.  Kai roared in anger.
"I'm glad to see that you remember what the Lightbringer looks like."
Both dragons circled each other before the both started summoning magic for their breath weapons.  Aether's wings started to glow as he gathered magic, while Kai's wings were shrouded in darkness. Together they let the magic wind out of their maws and towards each other.  When they hit, they fought each other with equal intensity.  The light from the magic interacting was so strong that even the others in the mines saw it and started to move towards the Gate Nexus.  This was how Rael joined them.

The blasts ended in a giant explosion that sent shockwaves across the landscape of Razen.  Now only Aether and Kai remained on the dying world.  The shockwave had caused the planet to start falling apart around the two combatants.  The dragons, both incredibly weary, circled each other for weakness.  Suddenly they both stopped circling and started to gather more magic from the already half-destroyed planet.  Ketran auras appeared around the dragons and their forms shifted until they were vaguely humanoid again.  Aether became the magic once again and Kai looked like his evil counterpart, a dark navy colour with four wings still on his back.  The two enemies started circling each other once again.  Suddenly they rushed each other and grappled together, both increasing their magic.
"You can't defeat me Aether!  I can feel you're magic waning!"
"We'll see.  I can draw from both planets now!"
Screaming at each other, their flame-like auras appeared and interacted.  With a triumphant yell, Aether increased his magic that much that he exploded, completely destroying Kai and the Geneslayer in the process.  As Aether himself disintegrated from the force of the magic, he saw only one thing.  A young woman with blonde hair and green eyes.
