Description ANOTHER commission forΒ Β

This one took a while but it was a very rewarding feeling to finish. It's interesting what you can learn with each new piece!

Good composition! It really draws your eyes in and just feels natural. The only thing I'd suggest to try out perhaps, not that it matters now that it's finished and it's great how it is, would be having the pillar behind the lady instead of the guy in the hope of jumping that contrast, since his dark jacket seems to blend a bit with the pillar and she appears to be significantly lighter. That said, and after further thought, how it is now gives the impression of his great strength and grounded-ness (like a metaphorical pillar) and her a sense of freedom. Anyway, I'll also ad how much I like your rough style. Those thick, re-worked lines

I kinda wanted her to be the light in his darkness. With her feeling freer than ever now that she had met him. But then I wound up drawing a lot of the light towards their hands connecting. I can definitely see the pillar behind her working.

Thank you so much man. I'm actually really enjoying working and cutting into my rough lines instead of doing new layers all the time, it's feeling more, real.

That definitely makes sense and I can totally see it. It's interesting the ways you can work different meanings within your art, and it's always(mostly) open to interpretation.

I understand that too, and it's probably somethingΒ (or something similar to) thatΒ I should start doing with my digital stuff. It's that feeling that you get with traditional work that's difficult to translate to digital.

Exactly

Yeah, I struggled between the two worlds of digital and traditional for a long time. I kinda had to remove traditional in order to learn digital more fluidly. Also doing things like working in 100% opacity on everything helped, I still have pressure sensitivity but I don't alter transparencies unless it's on like a shadow layer. But I always preferred thick strong paint. Painting backgrounds helped me learn a lot too.Β

Images like:Β other00.deviantart.net/53c2/o/… taught me a lot about painting in general.Β

Interesting. I've starting doing more traditional than digital recently for much the same reason (and partly my hand being forced), but I don't really want to leave digital behind altogether.

You've "found" yourself a very cool style and you use it consistently. And it's good that you like what your doing too, as in you're not forcing yourself to do things a certain way.Β

That image is so epic. There's a lot of your classic "implied detail". It'd take me hundreds of layers to do anything similar.

Hundreds of layers is the worst thing you can do sometimes, unless you're just polishing the final product then go to town XD

Maybe that's my problem, maybe I'm polishing as I go instead of going through more strictly step by step.

I never really work with a strict process, anything that appears that way might be habitual lol

adorable....I like how the green on the right pops, Β I notice you don't do too much green in your pictures haha, but I like how you utilized itΒ

Thanks!
Haha, I could say I try to keep the background minimal to add more focus on the characters - but it's probably more that I spend so much time on posing and composition that I have less time to spend on that sort of thing
