I wandered the con all day on Friday, Saturday got all kinds of skewed up, I'd decided to enter the Costume Contest and as expected it ATE my saturday at the con. Worst part was the hours spent in costume hidden from the public view so no pics to make it worth it! Not to mention I'd forgotten one of the hockey knee/shin bracers that distribute the stilt stress from the knee to the entire lower leg....
And to top it all off I didn't get so much as an honorable mention in the contest. One person said that the judges thought I had bought the costume. I've been considering how much of the costume I have actually bought. But one must decide for themselves how much "manipulating" the original is needed to consider it mine (ex: mask had wig to disguise neck border that I replaced with feather boa, FULL repaint, cut off horns and replaced with real ones I got off a hartebeeste skull from , and the foam interior structure has been beefed up, but does this mean the mask is my work????? you decide.) Because to make this much more "mine" I'd basically have to dye my own fabric..... Part of the issue could also be my habit to adorning the dragon with purchased products like a dagger, or camera bag (so goal #1 is make those custom)
I've also decided I'm nixxing this costume for future contests. Unfortunately because it is an original character and not a COPY of someone elses work (that fans are pre-attached to) it cannot possibly compete with fanart costumes.
However, deepest congratulations to for her victory with her toothless costume! Its splended!
I'm hoping we can have a photo shoot later this year when its less deathly hot outside!
Overall I had a good con, and between wearing contacts and being conscious of poseing, the pictures I've gathered of the Red Dragon are splendid so far!!
I DID NOT TAKE THIS PHOTO! I am the creator and wearer of the suit (which weighs 50+ lbs depending on adornments)

Ive been trying to get the set of three, but mainly the ice dragon for 2 years... I'd hang them on my wall like hunting trophies
I have so many plans for upgrades to the ice version :-D

you mean the arctic? That mask has been discontinued, I've looked online and even the lady that sold the ancient to me said she couldn't get a hold of arctic. ;-;

Also i love(it pisses me off that no one even notices such a a gerat peice) how noone is looking at the costume in the picture1 You deserve way mor recognition than this!

But this is amazing! Youd did create the mask and legs and stuff correct? If so why would the judges think you 'bought' it? You deserve way more than that in my opinion!

Whether I created the mask is up for debate. I consider it my work as the only thing I didn't do is make the latex. I custom hand-painted ALL the latex of the costume, gave it a bath in sunscreen (preserves latex), and then gave it a clear protective coating so I can walk in mud/snow/water/whatever without damaging it. Mask has had additional alterations including adding a child bicycle helmet and padding on the inside, relocation of viewing holes, cut off the hold horns that the mask came with and added REAL animal horns (which were cut off of the skull, boiled, cored, epoxied, and polished by me), and added a feather boa (instead of the wig hair it came with) to disguise the joint between the mask and my body.
The latex legs were a custom commission from a local latex artist. The painting is all my own.
Did I do the latex? No. Did I do everything else? YES.
All the leatherwork is also my own creations

This was taken early on Friday, and unfortunately I didn't have a buddy to help me dress so my arm covers weren't properly tucked into my bracers (difficult with latex gloves)
and Im a she, just so ya know ^_^;

...except my ex-girlfriend. I couldn't bear to look at her when she played Vageta. x.x She's... She's cute, yeah, but... Those eyebrows, and the hair. x.x
