Well, here it is, after much protesting and other reviews plus a short break, here it is. My reveiw of the Kitty Bobo Dropped Pilot. I've talked several times about how in 2000 and 2001 Cartoon Network held a couple contests where we kids could vote on what we wanted to see become a full fledged Cartoon Network series. The winners we got were The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Evil Con Carne, Codename Kids Next Door, Whatever Happened To Robot Jones? and Megas XLR. But there were many amazing pilots left to the sands of time doomed to never see the light as full cartoons. Alongside Prickles the Cactus and Utica Cartoon, Kitty BoBo might've been the most deserving of these forgotten pilots that deserves a second chance.

What I really love about this pilot is the fact that it's one of the very few cartoon episodes involving technology that hasn't become dated even after 14 years. Since the turn of the millennium we've all encountered that one guy who thinks they're hot stuff just because they have the latest technological device, be it a new game system, new computer or yes, even a cell phone. While they were around since the 1980s, cellular phones didn't become a common thing untill the 2000s, not many people could really get them for quite some time due to the exorbitantly high prices too. Kitty BoBo (voiced by Avatar the Last Airbender and American Dragon Jake Long's Dante Basco) is one of those people.

Bobo here thinks he's hot shit just because he's got a cellphone that, by today's standards isn't shit compared to our Androids and iPhones. He's by no means a real asshole though, just a very sad, very funny poser. Graffiti, the apparent antagonist for the series said it best: "you may have a cellphone Kitty Bobo, but you are NEVER gonna be cool!". This ol' boy is such a fucking poser he actually has his friend fake call him from a pay phone in an effort to look cool! However anything he does that involves the cellphone ends up in embarrassment for the guy, right down to him smashing it because he's too careless to look where he's biking while on the damn thing! Monkey Carl is right, he IS Crazy!

What makes Kitty Bobo's torment ok here is that put simply, he brought everything that happened to him onto himself. He was such a show off and so careless with that cellphone that it ended up being a curse to him. Even so he wasn't being a complete dick about having a cellphone and didn't do something like abandon his group of friends. As such he remains likable within the pilot while still being a show off. This group of friends has a very realistic misfit feel to them that makes them feel very real and relatable without them coming off as nerdy or weird. I love Monkey Carl for how little we see of him, I think he's supposed to be Swedish judging by his accent.

Rebeltaxi often brings up this pilot and for what it's worth it is a very neat idea. In 2006 Kaliher created a 50 page writers bible that explains the universe of this canned cartoon in more depth, 5 years after it faded into obscurity. Dunn had attempted to fund another series idea of her's Chloe of the Stars Thru Kickstarter, unfortunately only managing to reach 1/3 of her $35,000 goal. For a $75 donation you could have gotten a PDF file containing storyboards for a planned second episode of Kitty Bobo. And in fairness it came in 2nd for the Big Pick, just being beaten by KND. Maybe someday we Weill see A Kitty Bobo show for real.

A Kitty Bobo Show is owned by Kevin Kaliher and Megan Dunn.

I first heard of this show in a video from the YouTuber, blameitonjorge. I watched the pilot, and I fell in love with it the SECOND I saw it, mostly because I’m a sucker for anything anthro.

Cartoon Network sure missed out not picking Kitty Bobo up. I would sacrifice The Amazing World of Gumball, Uncle Grandpa, and Teen Titans Go in a heartbeat to get Kitty Bobo.

It really sucks that this didn't get picked up, I'd really like to see this as a series, also it feels like this is a PSA for Cell Phone safety, and what was the second episode of this series on the PDF about?

I heard kitty bobo actually won the big pick but the creator of KND had some nepotism going on with Cartoon Network, so that's why KND won...So basically in the nutshell... Kitty bobo is the true winner of the big pick, and KND cheated...

Actually, I read it came in second to Billy & Mandy. (I remember when those pilots aired, btw). I would say the show lives on in modern cartoons like Regular Show.

Actually, B&M's pilot was in the 2000 big pick. Kitty bobo was 2001...
Robot Jones came in second to Billy and Mandy in the Big pick 2000.

While I still like KND, I felt that CN could've at least picked up KBB since it won fair and square... According to the many resources

Who knows. For all we know, it could've lasted as long as Ed Edd n Eddy or as short as Whatever happened to robot Jones.

But it was CN's decision... kinda like Nickelodeon not picking up Adventure Time when they had the chance.Β

I remember when Cartoon Network aired this pilot. Looking back, it did have potential, but I can see why it wasn't picked up. It was well ahead of its time, showing the kind of relaxed humor and adult sensibilities which just caught on recently with shows like Regular Show.Β

If Kitty BoBo were to be picked up it should be an online series first and foremost. This way it doesn't have to adhere to any network standards and the creator can do whatever they want with the show without the need to cater to any sort of demographic.

They probably didn't have room for the show, but had room for Robot Jones and Sheep at the time they were made.
