Description Show: Steven Universe
Episode: 39
Year: 2015

Writer(s): Lamar Abrams, Hellen Jo

The ability to not only be able to see into the future but also be able to see multiple possible outcomes is both a blessing and a curse. Man was not meant to know the future; as Steven soon finds out here. Garnet is my favorite out of all of the Gems because she stands out the most not only in appearance but in her abilities as well. I always saw her as the true surrogate to Steven's mother Rose Quartz moreso than Pearl was and I'll get into that when I reveiw "Space Race" sometime. But as for this episode it is pretty decent.

Seeing Steven attempt to grow up and move on past childish things as he's maturing into a true Crystal Gem is adorable, since he does still keep his basic personality and does it in his own "Steveny" way; like switching his Ninja Squad poster for NEW Ninja Squad, even taking a page from Toy Story when talking to his action figures about getting rid of them. I really want a real MC Bear Bear plushie at a Build-A-Bear Workshop someday. I would like to know how Garnet gained the future sight ability in a future episode, because it is actually explained in a plausible way. She doesn't see into future in the true sense; rather, she sees the future as a river that forks through multiple pathways and is able to see into their various forks to the most likely outcomes, this is a future sight I can actually believe.

Honestly if I were Steven that's exactly how I'd use Garnet's ability, to predict the mundane out of childlike curiosity. And it actually does save him when Lars burns himself pretty badly. And this eventually drives Steven to madness worrying about the future and trying his hardest not to kill himself in some mundane way best shown through the Death Rag montage; and trust me when I say it's hillarious. This literally drives Steven up the roof, literally in an actually very intense scene, and yeah it does look a lot like Steven is going to kill himself. Garnet eventually admits that it was a mistake to let Steven know about her power because he wasn't ready for it. Just because he's maturing doesn't mean he's ready to know everything because there really are some things even mature children cannot handle. Steven isn't treated like a child here, but with reverence and respect inspite of his fears, much like anybody would of they could see the future or knew about it.
