What we have here is basically a blueprint for the kids show equivalent of Family Guy. It's definitely proof Seth could write for kids if he had stayed on that path during his tenure with Hanna-Barbera. And when I say this is a blueprint for Family Guy I mean it! You can definitely see in this short how the personalities for both Peter and Brian were formed out of Larry and Steve; hell, you even here Seth use his Quagmire voice for a pilot in one scene! Everything about this is just the perfect setup for what is now one of the most popular and long-running cartoons on TV! For better or worse I still stick with Family Guy just to see what idea they can pull out of their butts, and this pitch pilot proves Seth once upon a time had great talent.

For one this short is actually really funny, you get a lot of Seth's trademark non-sequitur and irreverent sense of humor out of this (like Mickey the Xenophobic Scotsman) plus, the actual animation looks fantastic! One of the main reasons Family Guy in its more recent years fails at a lot of its humor is because the animation just isn't very good (among other things). But this short right here proves to me Seth knew what he was doing when he went into the animation business! We all gotta start somewhere, and Seth MacFarlane got his at Hanna-Barbera. As a final note this wasn't the first short Seth did, that would be the true original pitch pilot The Life of Larry, which I also reccomend you check out.
