Description This image was for a contest at Renderosity that I missed, so I thought I should at least share it (and prove I'm still alive and kicking) The clouds are probably a clip file called "bz Cumulus.tgc" by Buzzz but it's been modified enough that I can't tell anymore where I started.

Wow, sweet job on this! The planet looks great, the texture on the landscape is well done, and the god rays are a nice touch. Awesome work!

Sorry for the late reply (to everybody ) but thanks! I do appreciate it The terrain actually uses TG2's displacement function to get stones that stick out of the sand a bit ... it didn't look quite as clean as i wanted, but it turned out pretty well

Beautiful, no need to say more! Like stated before, it would be something to discover a world like this. Hopefully in the next decades (which sadly is not possible )

Thanks, but I would disagree, the odds we might find something like this planet in the next few decades are fairly high. There are a lot of telescopes looking for terrestrial planets, HARP, COROT, Kepler, XO, HATnet, SuperWASP, TrES .... for all we know there may be a planet just like this we've already found, but we can't take a good enough photo to see what it's like.

Ok I'm not so sure about the alien city lights on the planet though - we might not find that

I like how detailed the clouds are and the subtle rays of light coming down too. The whole scene feels very believable but the best part is the terrain itself. The ground looks incredibly real yet still unique to most other TG2 renders I see

Really cool. Is the foreground planet's sky reflected on the above planet's surface. The above planet seems transparent so I was wondering if there was a "logical" reason for this.

well, what I ment was the sky was the same color as the planet so it blends into it.

Thanks Qaz, I do much of my work in 3d, the lighting is almost always exactly correct (it's VERY easy to get correct lighting in 3d as long as you know what you're doing, you simply have to match the color, location and intensity of each light source, and in this case there's only one)

I actually had second thoughts about this! Um, yes you're right but I'm afraid if the program does lightning on planet as just a close object to the place, U know what I mean?

The planet is completely separate from the landscape, if that's what you're thinking .... and to be honest I probably did tweak the lighting on the planet a tiny bit to show a little more of the surface I usually do that to show off the planet itself .... but the basic lighting should be completely correct.
