You're welcome. I hate that, too, and what those people say are rather contradicting statements. And, not to worry, you made lots of sense their. :3

I'm not too involved with OCs... but who said that they aren't original?
I mean, OC stands for original character.

Some idiots believe that they aren't original. I don't know why that is, but it's wrong.

I'm surprised no one decided to flame this yet D: but I totally agree on this! I just hate it when people make fan characters who are supposed to be MARRIED to the original ones (like...sonic fan characters who are married to sonic himself etc...) and stuff :/

Same here. I don't like fan characters who are with an official one if they already have a lover. I've seen a Twilight fic like that. The character was the girlfriend of Edward Cullen, and Bella was nowhere to be found in the story. .__.

wow. that's....hilarious XD
but no, I really hate that :/ and THAT'S what makes me think, "Wow, I wonder what the creator of the original character would think when they see this..."Person's" images of them together." ...I'm pretty sure they'd .....vomit.

I agree that fan characters and the like are all OCs. Now, it just depends on how they're made to be that determines whether I like a person's OC or not. But I've seen a great number of well-thought out characters, fan characters and original series characters alike. Just because they're original doesn't mean you have to hate them or that they're automatically Mary Sue or anything.
I have a lot of OCs and I've already faced accusation of "Oh, that character isn't original, because they look like [insert name] from so-and-so series." Let me tell you, those kinds of comments really suck. I hate having my OCs compared to established characters. How is it that my OC isn't an OC anymore? Is it just because they aren't copyrighted or something, like an actual series or show? I just don't get it!!!

ReikoChan In reply to Namakemono-chan [2009-05-31 05:55:56 +0000 UTC]
Yes, so very true. I've seen tons of great original fiction characters on this site, and it sucks that people label them Sues automatically because some think it's a self-insert of the author. Just because Tetsuya Nomura (creator of Kingdom Hearts and some Final Fantasy games) and Satoshi Taijiri (creator of Pokemon) inserted themselves into their own series does not meant that everyone else who make their own original story is going to do the same.
That's awfully mean of those people, now that you mention them accusing your OC of looking like characters from other existing fandoms. They should go look at other fandoms like Pokemon, because the Gym Leader Volkner looks a lot like Yondime from Naruto. I would name other fandoms that are guilty of this, but I won't. Maybe people are just jealous that you can actually come up with your own characters and stories that are probably better than the fandoms that they like.

original fiction as in
HELLO WORLD I WILL NOW INTRODUCE MY NEW SERIES, OF MY OWN CREATION, OF MY OWN MIND. NOW WHERES MY MONEY, BECAUSE I, STEPHEN KING, LOVE MONEY. YEAH. <3
because if so, why would someone have a problem with that?
