You couldn’t find a clear way to explain your relationship with Tsukishima Kei. You could take the easy way out and simply refer to Tsukishima as your friend...

But where would the fun be in admitting something so simple like that?

Finished with school and volleyball practice, Tsukishima offered to walk you home, like he always did. Without fail, once you were finished with your own club duties for the day, the tall blocker would be there waiting for you. Your other friends would often tease you and him, affectionately referring to you both as a couple of some sort.

This of course would make you blush as Tsukishima would scoff and refer to such assumptions as being “stupid.”

Sometimes he would watch you during basketball practice and tell you a snarky comment or two on how “terrible” your aim was while dissing your height.

Of course, this was all just playful banter. Your snarky remarks made toward each other was clearly used as a mask for something more; something that was currently hidden but would come to light soon enough.

It was 5 in the afternoon, and the once bright sun was beginning to wane as the sunlight softened to a gentle hue with the sun hidden within the clouds. Your hand was clasped tightly against Tsukishima’s as he held your hand, walking with you in a comfortable silence.

You stare at his golden eyes. With the both of you in the midst of your second year, you couldn’t believe that Tsukishima had somehow managed to get even taller. He was well past 6 feet in height now, and you were incredibly envious of that fact.

He caught your stare and stops walking, frowning at you while asking, “What are you looking at?”

A sarcastic reply was on the tip of your tongue, yet you were cut off when you felt a warm droplet slide down your face. Tsukishima was the first to take notice of how quickly the clouds were turning grey as he held on to your hand.

Soon, that single tiny droplet turned into a million droplets as the rain pelted through your respective uniforms. The sheer amount of droplets was making it difficult to see the road in front of you, and Tsukishima quickly realized this as well.

Managing to find an abandoned shed in the middle of this mess, you were quickly shoved into the wooden shelter.

You were shivering as Tsukishima sighed, digging through his bag as he pulled out a slightly damp sweater, throwing it at you, “Take off your blouse and put this on.”

You murmur a quiet thank you, facing away from him to unbutton your soaked top before quickly donning the sweater. Holding its long sleeve close to your face, you shut your eyes and breathe in its scent, feeling another blush creeping up your cheeks.

it smells like kei.

“What are you doing standing around like an idiot? Get over here.”

You groan, feeling annoyed that Tsukishima had ruined your tender moment. Facing him, you stick your tongue out before setting yourself next to him.

With a grunt, Tsukishima places an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer as he rested his head against yours, “Don’t move. I’m tired, and we’re going to be here for a while, so let me nap in peace.”

“Whatever Tsukki.”

With his warmth felt on your right, you could hear the way his breaths evened out as he leaned on you. He fell into a peaceful slumber, and you were left alone to contemplate your thoughts whilst staring at the rain.

In all honesty, you liked Tsukishima a lot. He was bitter and snarky at times, but there was also a hidden sweetness to him. A trait that only you could see when you were alone with him.

With Tsukishima’s soft breathing filling your ears, you could feel the blood rushing through your veins when you admit softly to him, “Kei, I like you.”

Believing that he hadn’t heard you, you sigh, relieved to get your confession off your chest. You close your eyes and lean against him, about to go to sleep when you felt something soft touch your cheek.

This touch immediately forces you to open your eyes as you saw Tsukishima’s molten gold eyes looking at you. Seeing your gaze, he leans down to press a kiss against your jawline, trailing his lips from the corner of your mouth to your ear where you heard him whisper,

“About time you said it first. I like you, too.”
