Description Well, this is sort of fanart for *VPizarro626 's not yet existing comic strip

The not-so-extraordinary Everyday Adventures of Ratdog and Sasha

which may or may not be realised some day

The story so far:

Keila, a tiny Chihuahua nicknamed Ratdog, is convinced she has found a Death Note. Now is the time to get revenge... revenge on all those that have laughed at her, on all those that made fun of her... she only needs to write their names in this book... BUT she has just realised that she can't, because she doesn't have opposable thumbs.

[I drew this without looking at reference pics so it doesn't really look like a Chihuahua^^]

Keila and Sasha belong to 's grandma:

This is exactly 50% adorable and 50% creepy, which, if you ask me, is the perfect balance.

I think you captured the floating skull that lurks over her head exactly right!

great ! love the simplicity of it all. black and white, no background. and cool expressive dog. I think it's even better without using reference. now it looks kinda weird and personal, but in a good way. yeeha

Thanks^^.

The thing about reference is... if you use it, you can make "informed" choices while drawing. You gain certain insights about your subject. And you're actively working at abstracting the real world into the picture.

If you don't use reference, then you are basically just drawing what is in your head, which is a rather small subset of the real world^^. And without outside input you just tend to copy yourself (at least I do^^). But yeah, in a way it is more personal that way

that is a very clever comment I completely agree with. I think one has to find a certain symbiosis between his stuff and the reference

aww, that's good to hear^^. I know I should have used real reference pics, but I really only looked at the "Attacked by Killer..." pic

Where's her Shinigami?

Well, the thing is she only thinks that it is a Death Note. But in fact it is just a common notebook somebody lost. So there is no Shinigami

In thumbnail I thought this was gonna your submission be for the Laika thing. [link]

Maybe Vincent will let his dog be cast in the movie version of Nick Abadiz's book that only exists in my mind.

I actually had this one drawn before the Laika thing was decided

I stumbled across that book (or just the cover to be more exact^^) while "researching"... is it any good?

Looks good, and is spoken highly of by critics. I only paged thru it in the shop but looked good. The best Laika themed comic I read was in one of the Popgun's I think (or Flight- they are much of a muchness) and had to dog landing on an alien planet and chasing spectral alien cats. The story was cute and the art was gorgeous.
