Description The pictured model is a 1/144th scale scratchbuilt model created in both wood and paper of a 1930's era flying boat. The Savoia S55 was a unique machine in having a catamaran hull(s) and a overall plan similar to early "flying wing" designs which did feature a small tail. Became interested in such machines after viewing the anime feature "El Porco Rosso" and remembered also my Chicago childhood and the museum exhibits on Col. Balbo's flight of some 20 of these machines to the windy city from Italy for the 33' Worlds' Exposition.
The cutting mat below the model is in half-inch grid. I can answer more questions about this model or I have a full article on www.kampfgruppe144.com blog on how it was made. My user name there is Russ and the avatar picture on my articles and posts is El Porco.
While I have created a great many models over the years, probably thousands by now, I seldom have more than a handful on shelf. They become gifts and are sold to interested people as what you often call "commission" projects here, or just a general sell-off. Its always been about the building more than the collecting. Some of my photos are small sizes and I apologize for these. Where I have larger ones, these will be the posted examples.

The 1920's & 30;s era Italian planes are some of the most beautiful aircrafts ive ever seen. Well done!!

Ive often contemplated scratchbuilding one of those S55 myself.

Its actually a simple craft. The hardest part was crafting two hulls (floats) of wood that matched each other for size and shape so they could sit side by side and compare well.

The rest is a lot of frames and bits. Would encourage you to try.

Wonderful plane! Especially that it's very unusual, looks really ahead of its times

Great job!
