Description

The USS Merced NCC-10020 was the first starship of it's class. The Merced-Class was mentioned several times in Star Trek, but it was never shown. The folks over at the Advanced Starship Design Bureau imagined the ship as a mid-size frigate from the early 24th century, and I always loved their design for it.

This bridge was a personal project of mine, trying out several ideas I had floating around. First of all, I wanted to create a bridge with the same layout as the Enterprise-D battle bridge, but rotated 180°.

Second, I wanted to create a new set of chairs for this bridge, rather than reuse chairs from other set yet again. I ended up modeling new chairs based on an unused piece of concept art by Clark Schaffer. They were originally intended to be used on the Enterprise-B bridge for 'Generations'.

3D model done in Blender, texture work and computer displays done in Inkscape

I love not only how the design of this bridge ties into canon precursors and successors alike, but also how its non-standard layout and reworked shapes echo the version of the Merced exterior it represents: The fanon ship seems like a loose (even quirky?) play on mixing the TMP+ design philosophies.  The relatively relaxed setup here, less "uptight" than the movie era but less evolved than TNG, evokes that same feeling of a vessel that could one day make its way into civilian hands

Nice! Always liked the way they made so many different rooms out of the same sets on the shows

Can you do an illustration of the USS Lantree bridge from "Unnatural Selection" on TNG? I believe it was supposed to be similar to this.

Keep up the good work, lovin it!

Wow!  That's such a different layout, so familiar yet completely different but it totally works!

This kinda reminds me of concept art for Voyager's bridge. Cool!

Incredible!!!

Truthfully, at first glance I was not sure about the awkward bridge design; but the more I look at it and the new chair designs I love the bridge. Also unused piece of concept art by Clark Schaffer for Generations, were probably discarded when they realized how expensive design brand new chairs for a bridge set that would only appear for 10 minutes. I look forward to seeing these chair designs in some more of your awesome bridge designs.

For me, though, I would go with a larger wide View-screen that goes all the way to the two front stations. That's just me, though.
