This may be my favorite painting I have seen on deviant art in the year I have been here. Very well done.

Very interesting image, nicely done.
It would be nice to credit Elvis Costello for the lyrics of Pretty Words.

thanks
if you'll notice - it wasn't me that quoted elvis costello. it' must have been either the guy that featured it or one of the fellows that recommended it. at any rate - i made sure to give old elvis the credit when i edited my artist's comment.

I was making general observation - no offense intended. It is an interesting piece, and actually does have a lot of resonance with the lyrics.....

Nicely done, not the photo though, look at the histogram - it has a big gap on top.

what the fuck are you talking about?

I’ve never had a critique of my “histogram” before. Maybe, though, that’s because I don’t much bother with photography or digital arts... with traditional artists this isn’t any kind of issue. Pretty much all I want to do is capture what my drawing or painting looks like… I adjust a little with the contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. until I feel it’s a fair representation of what I’ve done on canvas. I can’t really see how it matters if my “histogram” is all neat and tidy.

If a histogram has a gap on top, that may indicate that the photo was underexposed. To check if it is indeed so, open up Photoshop/Gimp go to Ajustments>Levels, and set up the top slider accordingly -> [link] This usually also saturates the image more, so lowering the saturation after that might be also a good idea.

when i look at my painting and then i look at the photo on my computer screen they look pretty much the same. i don't care if my histogram wins your seal of approval.
here's the essence of what i'm saying...
who cares?

PLyczkowski In reply to relaxeder [2011-02-13 19:04:19 +0000 UTC]
I thought you care. Sorry, tried to help. It looks better for me with levels fixed.

relaxeder In reply to PLyczkowski [2011-02-13 19:51:47 +0000 UTC]
that's what you're thinking when you look at my artwork? that the levels aren't acceptable? sorry - paying attention to such minutia seems kinda petty to me.
how is it you're able to view my histogram anyway?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PLyczkowski In reply to relaxeder [2011-02-13 20:18:26 +0000 UTC]
don't get me wrong, the painting is fine, and the levels bother me just a little. I don't have to view the histogram to know that it's off - it looks like a thin grey film on top of your whole picture.

relaxeder In reply to PLyczkowski [2011-02-14 05:48:36 +0000 UTC]
i've been thinking about it and... well - i suppose i'm glad that you pointed out the histogram issue after all. sorry i was such a hard on.
