Remy was excited. He heard that Kyle and his family were going upstate to Friends Lake for the weekend. Kyle had invited him to go up with them, and Remy happily accepted.

On Friday morning, Remy was packed and ready to go. But they wouldn't be leaving until Kyle's father finished work.

By five o' clock, they arrived to pick up Remy.

Remy brought along his backpack, which contained some snacks, a few books and CD's. He also carried a small suitcase, containing mostly extra clothes, his pajamas and his toothbrush. His father told him not to go overboard with his packing and instead go lightly.

Remy said good-bye to his parents and climbed into the McLontra's big white truck. Soon they were off.

"You're gonna like this cabin," Kyle told him. "We got a good deal renting it. It's got a big dock where we can jump off and go swimming in, or if we want to go boating..." Kyle became lost in thought, his excitement overwhelming him.

Remy, too, could hardly wait to get up there.

The trip was slowed down due to rush hour traffic, but it wasn't much further. Remy didn't mind the traffic. Or Kyle's bickering with his sister, Regina. And they made frequent stops for bathroom breaks.

It was growing dark. After nearly three hours on the road, they finally made it.

The truck pulled into a heavily wooded area and onto a graveled driveway. Right ahead was the cabin.

It was a quant, two-story building with a large set of stairs leading up to the front door.

The truck parked and everyone got out.

Kyle urged Remy to the back. "Come on, over here. I gotta show you this."

They went over towards the back of the cabin. Regina followed them. There was a large wooden porch at the back with a barbecue and deck chairs.

And further down was the lake. There was the dock that stretched out towards the water.

"Look at that," said Kyle. "Isn't that a sight?"

Remy smiled in amazement. Kyle wasn't kidding.

"Hey, you three," Mr. McLontra called out. "Come and give me a hand with the bags!"

"It's alright," said Kyle. "We can go swimming tomorrow."

Everyone went back for their belongings and settled into the cabin.
