Presenting the Midway verse U.S.S. Reliant! In the Midway Timeline the Miranda class was class of science vessels measuring 305m in length. Debuting in 2253, the Miranda class was designed to bolster Starfleet’s scientific capabilities, which some groups felt had fallen to the wayside following the destruction of the U.S.S. Kelvin. Focusing on planetary surveys, the Miranda class featured a pair of large shuttlebays, large planetary sensor arrays, and numerous labs. Despite its focus on scientific research, the class was well armed, mounting a weapons pod on a rollbar above the hull. The rollbar connected directly into the nacelle pylons, allowing the warp conduits to feed directly into a pair of mega phasers at the corners of the rollbar. This heavy armament allowing the ship to safely explore farther than was customary for science ships at the time. It also allowed starfleet to discreetly increase its tactical presence in a sector by assigning members of the class to planetary studies within the region.
