July 23, 2376, USS Pendragon NCC-73579 begins patrol between Earth an Mars. Following the battle of Wolf 359, Starfleet was in desperate need of more ships and firepower. The battle had proven how dreadfully unprepared the federation was for the borg threat. In light of this, starfleet began a program to test the viability of refitting older hulls with modern tech to bolster fleet numbers. One of the hulls was the constitution class USS Pendragon NCC-2076, which had recently been decommissioned due to damage in a border skirmish with tholian cruisers. The ship was thoroughly stripped and refitted, turning the once outdated starship into a modern light cruiser. Relaunched in early 2369 with the new registry NX-73579, the Pendragon was tested against other constitution class and similarly sized modern starships. In every test the Pendragon excelled. Two weeks after launch she received her NCC designation and Starfleet approved the refit of the other remaining members of the class at a rate of five a year. By the start of the Dominion war twelve hulls were upgraded to MKIII standards. The class would serve with distinction throughout the conflict with one of the lowest causality rates of any clas within the fleet. The refit would extend the constitutions lifespan into the early 25th century.
