Powers:
Unstoppable Rage - An Oni may have anger but an Asura has PASSION. The sheer unrelenting and perhaps divine fury of an Asura is generated from not just anger but a combination of half a dozen emotional excesses taken to their logical extremes. To face an Asura in battle is to know the meaning of implacable foe. It is a fundamental driving force of their existence and there are few things that can sway an Asura from the source of their ire and if it disappears they'll find another. Ultimately this means that once an Asura is in combat, it will fight to the death and keep going regardless of injury.
Combat Master - Due to their neigh immortality and constant aggression , Asura are masters of countless forms of melee combat. Their multiple arms allow them wield many of these weapons simultaneously and in concert. Many of these weapons are based on the more exotic weapons of South Asia such as the Vajra, the chakram, shamshir, katars, and tridents. Short bows, daggers and even more supernatural items are also employed to devastating effect. It goes without saying that Asura are ruthlessly powerful in close combat as well, pummeling their foes into oblivion with a relentless speed.
Physical God - Asura have limits of physical power far beyond that of a human despite being very similar in body structure. Their bodies are naturally more dense and exert far more force for their size. An Asura could suplex an African Elephant with low difficulty. They are capable of clearing miles of distance with a single jump and can punch through several feet of steel. Asura fear no worldly disease, virus or poison. Their bodies regenerate fast enough that one mortal injury will not kill them outright and if dismembered their stumps immediately seal off the blood vessels until they can focus on forming an entirely new limb from that stump. A majority of all but the most destructive conventional weaponry cannot harm an Asura let alone kill it.
Omnidirectional Awareness - Part of what makes an Asura so difficult to fight is that they not only have 4-6 arms they also tend to have three faces. This effectively gives them a redundantly wide range of motion, reach and sight. Processing three sets of eyes worth of information. supposedly an Asura has a trifold brain and thus three times the information capacity. Surprising an Asura is extremely hard to do for this reason. Unlike other multi-headed beings, an Asura's three faces are all the same being and so there is no internal struggle between egos.
Divine Mantle - Also called a Mantra or Mandala, this circular instrument varies in complexity depending on the rank and power of the Asura. It could be compared to a Angelic Halo but situated primarily at the Asura's back rather than crowning the head. It is a manifestation of the Asura's power, and allows a swath of Enigma manipulation abilities. Majority of these are aimed at combat purposes as that what is what consumes an Asura's focus much of the time but Asura can occasionally. Most common applications are to fire explosive balls of Enigma from their hands, fire massive beams of energy, generating an explosive nova around themselves or empower their already ridiculous physical powers to legend inducing levels. It is not always active and the Asura can dismiss it or activate it at will but when it is active, every Enigma Sensitive being for miles knows it.
Weakness:
Consumed with Vice - Lust, hate, cravings, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness, hypocrisy, cruelty and general destructive impulse are facts of life for Asura and are the primary reasons behind much of the unhappiness in their otherwise incredibly idealistic existence. The trifold brain of an Asura gives them three times the processing power of a human but at the same time it bombards them with three times the emotion and impulse inducing chemicals found in humans. Unlike the Deva who they envy in the same way an animal would have reason to envy a human, the Asura have great difficulty controlling and tempering these impulses which is what leads them to always instigating conflict with other powerful beings, including their own kind. They lack the emotional stability to have any response other than the most EXTREME reaction. An Asura does not simply dislike someone, they hate them. They do not simply desire someone, they lust for them. Sadness becomes sorrow, fear becomes paranoia and confidence becomes compound arrogance. The smallest failure can set an Asura off and they rarely have the self control to admit that their failings may be their own doing. In the same capacity an Asura is capable of great good when it manages to channel it's passions into something constructive. Sadly a strong majority of Asura, after being decimated by the aloof Deva for millenia, are torn between championing causes worth their time or accepting their lot as being always angry all the time. The constant knowledge that they are above humans but below every other divine being is infuriating to Asura and many of them simply drift from battlefield to battlefield and the depths of the underworld venting their constant frustration.
Will Not Stop - There is a point where determination goes hand and hand with suicide. Asura at one time or another reach this point and simply cannot stop themselves from fighting a battle they cannot win. That Asura almost look forward to this is a sign that despite all their power and physical gifts, the Asura truly one of the four unhappy existences regarded in Buddhist reincarnation. They are a divine being...but one that is the lowest of all other divine beings and one that is constantly aware of this fact with little hope of actually doing anything about it. An honorable death in combat is often the greatest honor an Asura can experience.
Enigma Sensitivity - Only supernatural abilities of great power, perhaps Kaiju scale, can bring down an Asura. Where conventional means fail, Enigma finds a way. Perhaps this is why the Deva hold such a heavy advantage over the Asura, as the Asura are akin to lightning rods for channeling Enigma.
Description: An Asura resembles a human but one of Olympic scale and perfect proportions. Strong, towering, and with a look of fiercely wild dignity. They are always heavily muscled, practically chiseled into a form made for combat. Their body sometimes even sports ritualistic scars resembling chiseled patterns. Their skin tones range from a terracotta like red to saturated red or blue to a burnished bronze and rarely a charcoal black or steel color. Their hair is often wild and pulsing with Enigma though can be long or short. Most telling are that Asura's have compound shoulders that support 4-6 arms. Each pair capable of individual motion. Beyond that Asura's develop three faces arranged side by side with a rare few only developing two with the other face forming where the cranium would be normally. These features are consistent with both men and women Asura with women called Asuri. They commonly wear loose fitting ropes and intricate jewelry, emphasizing their confidence in their powerful forms. They are also known to carry large (to a human) exotic weapons that often provide a clue as to the specific combat style of the Asura in question.
Personality: Asura are beings of emotional excess and violent conflict. It is said they are created from the souls of those that fought with good intentions but used violent means to accomplish their ends. As the lowest in the hierarchy of beings that could be considered 'gods' in the Toho Plane, Asura represent the threshold of what that actually means. Power clearly beyond mortal kin, superhuman in ability and in deed to ends both great and terrible. Asura seem to have a very blessed existence and in many ways they are. But Asura are a sort of Yokai that can almost never know peace of mind. They are constantly bombarded by emotional mood swings and strong impulses that find little other outlet than mortal combat. Asura are wrathful and envious beings that criticize humans for their own flaws and weaknesses while at the same time being furious at the stronger Kami and especially Deva for having the power and peace of mind that they do not. Supposedly the path to such heights is not closed to Asura and they have more than enough resources to do so but due to their excessive 'desire' they cannot find the focused stillness of mind to do so. So they rage, and pick fights with anything and everyone. Despite their combative nature Asura manage to congregate in clans that occasionally fight each other when they aren't fighting other things. Asuri are just as war like as their male counterparts but are notable for devoting a great deal of their power into herbs and plants. This gives a buffer of support and healing for the constant conflict Asura clans get into. Their skill at such is so great that they can cure even horrific diseases like Leprosy. They also are known to use these skills to make 'party favors' which can charm nearly any man they desire. Asura party as hard as they fight and nothing brings a clan together like a post battle banquet and dance. One could call the Asura a proud warrior race were it not for the lack of composure. The leader of a Asura clan is called a Asurendra and is the strongest warrior of the clan by right of combat. There are a few notable tribes of Asura such as the bow wielding Danaveghasa and the terrible-faced Kalakanjakas that specialize in terror tactics. However the number of Asura are very small in modern times compared to what they once were. Asura were once legion in number, like ants, and made war on the Deva who at the time were not that different from them. Sadly a mistake in drinking a powerful Enigma powered form of alcohol named Gandapana Wine resulted in the entire race being kicked out of the realm of their birth, the mythical hourglass shaped mountain continent called Sumeru in the Toho Plane. After a large scale invasion followed by a tragically ironic retreat, the fight between Deva and Asura continued until the Asura were but minor clans. An inter marriage between one of them managed to finally bring a civil concord with the Asura but the bitter remains of shattered Asura legions simply retreated deeper into the underworld where they could continue their destructive existence surrounded by beings weaker than them. The effects of the Gandapana Wine are likely the source of the Asura's out of control passions and emotional instability. Before that the Asura were regrettably straight forward and impatient but not as wrathful and borderline insane as they are now. Some Asura, especially newer generations manage to overcome their racial stigmas and work diligently toward greater things and peace of mind but there are many more that continue the blood drenched traditions of their forefathers. It is notable that the more 'moderate' and altruistic Asura dwell the Buddist centric territories of the central and eastern regions of the Toho Plane. The more malicious and PTSD embittered older generations can still be found haunting the far west near the borders of Sumeru and the outright demonic can be found in the underworld and Jigoku. The Asura are known for being a race of Yokai that have a limited population but far range and many have insights into the mysterious western regions dominated by creatures more centric to Hindu faith. They could be considered a Yokai of two distinct cultures.
