Description
Scientific illustration commission for World Soil Day!
This illustration was for Soil Science Australia as part of their 2020 Save Our Soils campaign.
The illustrations highlight threats to soils and key priority areas for saving our soils. Threats include encroachment of urban areas, soil erosion, contamination, climate change (drought & bushfires), and salinity, sodicity and acidity.
Soils are Australia’s most valuable natural asset (~$1 trillion/year) and provide food, shelter, clothing, and help keep our water sources clean.
Healthy soils are intrinsically linked to strong regional communities through their connections to agriculture, natural resources, biodiversity and the environment.
I used ~100 references and had a fun challenge painting an environment while maintaining that classic scientific illustration feel.
