This is my submission to the avatar drawing contest dark horse has been holding this month. I gotta say, I haven't put this many hours into one single picture in such a long time... (Or maybe ever? ...I think the last time I did a detailed peice like this was for a korra picture lololol) I guess that just shows how much I am emotionally invested in this dang show. I learned a lot of cool things while working on this picture. I'm proud of myself and that feels nice. I really want to thank for helping me with this. His advice with colouring and composition were what got me to this result. Thanks homie <3Related content

Thanks Whit :3 I'm finally reaching the point where I enjoy working on backgrounds and that's something I am soooo happy to say. I actually did the background before doing the shading on the character which is unusual for me. bgs are always pushed last for me... hopefully I'll break that habit from now on!! And the Avatar style is always gonna shine through in my art I think lol. It's a massive influence on my drawing style.

thats a good method! On bigger pictures I do the same thing, (establishing most of the background before the character)
It helps keeps things balanced, and makes the character feel like it belongs in its setting more.
