As a boy he didn't comprehensible of the radical movement of racism until his mother told him about his heritage. Some chapter told about the similarity and diferrence about Ruth and James, and they conquer it all.

The similar patern of both charecter was the bitte seperation of a family. the diference was that Ruth loved to moved, that is ehy she was riding the bike to escape her reality.Though she failed to have a true connection with her kids because she beat them and didn't tell them about herself.For James is almost different story cause he didnt want to forget about his second dad .Therefore, James's approach to this memoir demonstrates not only a clever and engaging form, but also a realization that to understand the present, one must understand the past.

THe similarty in both chapter was lookin for one fath they trully belong too. the old testament is about how Ruth describe the jewish religion and following the rules.The tradion was the part of her life ,even thouhg she did not like it she has to take part of it for respect.The new testament thell how james loved about the churche and how it make his mother happy. They both took great pride in thier relationship to god.James relation of the chapter wss that he come to understand the power of god's many blessing, That is why ruth change and become a cristian.Then it tells about racist coment of god's color.Ruth's statement that "God is the color of water" succinctly captures Ruth's attitudes toward race and religion. Ruth believes that race occupies a secondary role to goodness and achievement. She believes that no matter one's race, hard work determines worth. Therefore James understand the conflict of how race is involve in religion too.

School for both James and ruth was easy to understand. the reason was that bothe were discriminated by their fellow classmate and hard for them to make freinds with others. Ruth when to white school durin her fourth year in elelmentary. Even she went to school the peolple hated her because she was a Jew. In time she made a great friend Frances whish is the only positive role in her life that keep her going in school, family , and religion. Ruth influence James to go to Jewish school to conveyed her religion into her children. As a consequence, James and his siblings were often the only black students in school, and suffered from the prejudice in the white world. The only way that kept James going to school wasthe black power mustered in him form the movement that is happening. THus it show the strugle abut James and ruth ,and how they were judge by their socitiy.

Education was ane thing that came out the most for Ruth and alsl James. Ruth looks back on her senior year in High school, she did not get to walk during her graduation ceromony because of the tradionof Jew not to enter other religion sanctuary. James was forced tgo go to school by his mom because it was Ruth number one priority, to have her children better education and able to set their own goal in life. After that , James succeed and graduated from high school got a scholarship to Oberlin College major in jazz music.Schooling topped her list of what she expected the kids to attendand that made her proud.

Ruth would have had a more personal relationship with her kids only if she let them know a little bit about herself here and there. James at one point had no idea where she came from and Ruth only told him that she came from god. Also, James was teased by one of his brothers because he told him his real mother is in jail and he is going to visit her. James really didn't know much about his mother until he grew up to be an adult and wrote this book.

IN conlusion, Ruth didn't have everything so she could provide for her kids, but somehow her kids grew up to become successful and respected. A few of her actions were not the best ones, not relating with the kids on her past and beating them for simple mistakes. Opposite to that, Ruth handled her kids in her own way, being able to get all her kids to attend school and they all were capable of defending themselves.
