Description Made for

FAV if you need this because
NOTES are as important as the picture

Basic proportions, measuremeants are in heads measured VERTICALLY.
8 head body for reference, relative size/proportion of an average adult.
2 figures are placed (conveniently) next to each other for height comparison, average height I had in mind is about 5'10'' for the guy and 5'6''-5" for the girl

Guy___
shoulder width (joint to joint) is approximately 2 head width
hip is approximately the size of chest (without shoulder joints)
the hips starts about 1/2 head under the 5th head (as illustrated)

Girl___
shoulder width approximately 1.8heads-2heads
hip is about the size of shoulder (joint to joint)
hips starts at 1/3 head under the 5th head (as illustrated)

Both___
knee is located right ABOVE the 2nd head
bellybutton is around the 5th head
neck (bottom of chin to collarbone) about 1/3 head (when subject is looking straight forward
elbow at the 5th (aligned with belly button)

These proportions are not absolute standards, they are made from observation and measurements from different artists(I just pick the numbers easier for memorizing). Style/ individual character can effect it, but don't let it be an excuse to not know them.

These are STATIONARY proportions, they do not have stretch and squash effect nor dynamics on them, will put something up later, but for now, indulge.

If you have any specific problems feel free to ask, and feel free to join the community if you feel like you have stuff to offer or simply want to join for the community, I am sure there are more motivated artists like you ;D

If you think there are flaws in this as far as proportion goes, feel free to point out and I will look them over.

Man's hips are a tad bit wide, and woman's ribs don't taper in enough for the way the muscles on the torso rest on the hips. Other than that, probably some of the closest anatomy I've seen on DA.

So men don't have thigh gaps?

I made this quite a long time ago, and these were based on observation so take reference with a grain of salt. I'd say on based on past references over the years, men have are much less likely to have thigh gaps.

A person actually stands 7 1/2 heads high not 8. Cultures such as the Greeks have lengthened people's proportions to make them look more eloquent.

Thanks for this - it was helpful to know width of shoulders as well as proportions height-wise.

How does it work for the height of a teenager and adult (any difference between them)?

Renevatia In reply to Scorpin-Girl [2010-02-11 07:41:19 +0000 UTC]

the younger the less head measurements (bigger head in proportion to the rest of the body)

avg teens have around 7 head height and as it gets to preteens figures shorten so much that it would start to feel wider (like how babies have short arms, probably 3:1 length:width ratio)

The male body should be more angular and his shoulders should be more broad.
His hips/butt should be coming in, and not out like the female's.
Like what the person before me said,
"The female's difference is...just to make her shorter and easier?"

And yes, its in your notes, but this should be pointed out in the image its self.

I had heard about the 8 heads, but this explains it better. Thank you! I get to practice.

I've been wanting one for the girls. The female's difference is...just to make her shorter and easier?

Renevatia In reply to sakurasoul [2010-02-04 14:52:58 +0000 UTC]

I listed some major difference in notes, there are some minor differences in fat storage over places of the body which makes some shapes slight different, and difference in the pelvic bone structure is one of the major ones.
