Description I'm finally taking the Conceptual Illustration class that I've been waiting to take since last year~

Here's the first project we did. It was to simply whip up two opposing combatants of any nature- be it warring combatants, political combatants, or whatever. I decided to do two groups of miners that are competing over the same area of land; one group is a society of androids, who use advanced equipment and tech, while the other group is entirely human and have little to rely on but muscle power and hand-driven equipment. Looking back I wished I had pushed the human design more, but I was always worried it wouldn't look like a 'miner' anymore then :/ But what's done is done!

I like how both societies have different color schemes and silhouettes (even with their gear). That class does sound fun.

Great work! The contrast between the two is so wonderful, they are so different but still feel like they belong to the same story.<3

Nice idea with the old, dirty look and the new shiny modern look.

Definitely gets the "Hig-tech vs Low-tech" across. The human miners (his) left elbow pad is slipped. Might want to tighten that.

what brushes do you use in photoshop? multiply?

RenieDraws In reply to larrybraverman [2010-01-20 19:48:07 +0000 UTC]

I usually just slap down the flat base color and paint with an airbrush with an opacity flow, and I like to take the dry brushes, give them some scatter and paint rough textures. It's all the default brushes, nothing fancy for me

I think I'd rather go with the high-tech operation. I don't mind a little hard work and elbow grease, but the manual stuff would be... well... a LOT of hard work.
