I dont understand why they call these things "duck billed dinosaurs" when they dont seem to have them

Renum63 In reply to 9Weegee [2017-07-31 14:38:00 +0000 UTC]

They do, it just isn't that obvious in profile. Of course their bills were not as long as in ducks, it's the width of the bills that is the reason for the name.

Oh and this is probably the best hadrosaur depiction I've ever seen.

If your going to depict them like this, then you should be a consultant for a documentary..

Oh no, I know nothing. I just paint and have ridiculous ideas.

9Weegee In reply to Renum63 [2017-07-31 14:50:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh well. I wish documentaries base their designs off of art like this instead of adding an ugly skin texture with gray, green, brown, and light yellow.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Renum63 In reply to 9Weegee [2017-07-31 14:56:28 +0000 UTC]

Well it's true that many dinosaur designs in documentaries are not quite up to date. It's a matter of production I guess, it takes time and can't always keep up with the progress.Β

Is this by any chance based on this horse ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Renum63 In reply to mrplcole [2016-08-15 10:35:57 +0000 UTC]

No, it's based on an edmontosaurus skull. In general I don't use other than my own reference images.

This is beyond... AMAZING!!!!! You've made it so real, so believable, it looks like an animal that's living today. There's something really gentle in it, it rekinds of a horse. As if I can reach my hand and pet it on its tough scaly hide!!! Magnificent!!!

I still can't believe you did this with ArtRage. I've had that program for a while and I still have trouble figuring it out. Just incredibly well done!

Renum63 In reply to EliTheDinoGuy [2015-12-09 19:32:44 +0000 UTC]

My technique is actually really simple, mostly the oil brush tool, a little air brush. But it takes a while...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EliTheDinoGuy In reply to Renum63 [2015-12-12 06:10:27 +0000 UTC]

And you probably also have loads of experience with traditional paints

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Renum63 In reply to EliTheDinoGuy [2015-12-14 14:34:00 +0000 UTC]

Can't deny that, although I don't know if it matters so much in the end. Routine may help, but on the other hand you can develop your technique and skill quite fast - it's more like realizing things rather than working very hard. Of course that (realizing things) can come through working hard, too, and it often does. But yeah, I paint digitally pretty much the same way I paint in traditional mediums.
