Pietra’s eyes snapped open, her claws digging into the soft, slightly damp, earth of the cave she and her rider were sleeping in. Eyes narrowing, she stared at the human form curled in the corner as another loud snore echoed across the chamber. She was sore, her paws were in a perpetual state of wet and her patience was fast approaching its wick. Why they had paired her with this . . . this perpetually irritating rider she would never know. “Your temperament will match” they had said, “your strengths and weaknesses will not overlap” they had tried to placate her.  Huffing in disdain she pulled herself to her feet as another snore thundered through the cave, if she wasn’t allowed to sleep, the rumbling mass of male wouldn’t either.
Two days past, Dax and Pietra had been paired together to go on a journey across Roenden. Mounting up, Dax tugged softly on Pietras mane and whispered “We got this girl” before signalling to the instructor to begin.
