Description
Yet again, an art style change! Decided that my old faces were a bit too hm... round. Experimenting with shadows as well.This is also a sort of "remake" of my Element of Kindness work just to see how much my drawing style's changed over the past year.
Anyway, have some Fluttershy to brighten your day!

Excellent drawing!Β A very cute Fluttershy, in a nice, calm, sunny environment.Β The best parts of this image are Fluttershy's face and the impressive use of colors.
The attention to detail in Fluttershy's face and mane are really amazing.Β I love how the mane has parts sticking out from the general mass, especially the stray strand of hair curves in front of her face, which give a more realistic representation of hair that makes her look more realistic.Β The eyes are detailed and adorable.Β They do differ from the show style in the shape of the eye, but still look great, and give your style an original touch.Β The shading and highlights in general look great, and are consistent with a single light source behind us to our right.Β The slight blush, the shape of the face and the thin outlines give an anime feel to the piece.
Your drawing, especially the background, is much more saturated than the show, resulting in a brighter, more vibrant environment.Β You use these colors well in this piece, heightening the contrast between Fluttershy and the background; the blue background helps make the yellow pony stand out as the focus of the piece.Β The background clouds look very realistic, but also feel a bit off - even though it makes sense that we can see nothing but the clouds from our location in the sky, the complete lack of any sort of horizon or ground in the picture is a little disorienting.Β Also, the depth feels a bit odd - the large cloud in the background is very blurred, indicating it is far away, but appears so large that it seems like it should not be too far away.Β There are not any real visual clues to indicate how far away any clouds are, which confuses the eye a bit.Β A horizon line, a difference in shading or coloring, or a series of clouds/other objects receding into the background would help with this (such as with this photo: fav.me/d5mtef2 ).
However, these are minor complaints against a background that is not the focus of the piece.Β The background does its job well in being unobtrusive and focusing attention on Fluttershy.Β I do wonder what convinced her to come up and walk on some clouds again.Β Great picture, I really enjoyed looking at it!
