How DO you airbrush a dapple?

You have to airbrush really carefully around the lighter spots, without making dark blotches.. it is tricky to keep the dark areas looking smooth, and then dark parts need to shade into other dark colors... This is a tough paint job!

Yeah , I guess it is "rose grey" when a bay turns grey.. right?

I have tried to use a stencil. The big problem with dapples is that the spots are light, so THEY would need to be masked. You can't make a stencil to mask tiny individual spots. If you make a stencil that masks off the dark areas , so that you are airbrushing the lighter color over the darker color, the spots look chaulky and as if they are on top of the underlying color. I just can't find a way to make the light dapples look realistic, like they are "melted" into the darker colors, let alone manage to get the intricate edges the dapples have... so gorgeous.
Have you ever tried airbrushing dapples?

Thank you so much! Amazing.
I have tired several of these methods, but my results are not too impressive!
These models are gorgeous!
