Exactly.

 Ayonah doesn't explain much, so people will fabricate their own bizarre narratives to fill in the gaps. Pretty soon it becomes a religion, bolstered by the fact it has useful benefits to its adherents. Reptanglians enjoy a clear social hierarchy, sense of belonging and fierce group loyalty.  That's why Reptanglians venerate the sloats. Sloats display the same social characteristics that Reptanglians hold dear.

 Without giving too much away, this is the point, the age old question:  how does one know what they believe is true? 

 If asked directly, Ayonah would just smile. " Whatever. You'll understand when you are old enough." He's no help.

 Kade has had very little real life experience, and none in the Tanglian wilderness. Except for the  texbook subjects such as  "field demonics" and "potony" he is fairly clueless.

 Like me, for example, I know perfectly well what a tornado looks like because I've seen pictures, but I might ask  " why is the sky turning that funny color?" when visiting the midwest.

 I really love this quality of  Kade's character ,  he has abilities, talent and knowledge bordering on super-natural, but is equal  part clueless dummy . Like a graduate in physics who doesn't know how to clean a toilet.(cough)
The Tanglian Wilderness revels in chaos, so this is a difficult subject to learn without experiencing it... Serence was right, Kade really should of been better prepared for this role, but seems circumstances demanded that he be fast-tracked into this position for some higher purpose... (the "plan " alluded to here)
It seems like the Reptangle is something or other, though nobody is sure what, or where it is.

Well... the Reptangle is the author & artist... so I guess it's placed even above Ayonah and has a great plan for the world. Not sure how they can save it though, except by providing a decent narrative that people in another world are willing to pay for. (And/Or possibly a good piece in an artist's résumé)

 Fundamentalist Reptanglians, like Berm, venerate sloats and rejoice in their mess.  I kinda like it too.
 Tannis , being a quiet agnostic, is less thrilled.

it's just nice to see Berm look so cheery when he was so stressed and snappy in his introduction.

And yeah...holidays tend to be a mess so I get why Tannis is less than thrilled.
