Description
Magic… sorcery… creating fire. For young Larom, this is the first real challenge. The druid is still at the beginning to become a very powerful caster. And this picture was made to capture this important moment. ^^Birthday gift to my precious friend

NOTE:
This is not quite my “cartoon/anime style” as you know it… it’s a few steps beyond. In fact, this is still a simple style, but enhanced with some smoother shading and one or two filters. This would be my digital style, if I was asked to do a cover art for something.
Used myself as model here. ^^

Always good to start with the basics, I always say! XD This is really awesome though! I love how you pinpoint the light source of the magic energy and really make the shading of the character work with the lighting. So beast-looking too, if I may add! ^^ An epic job well done!

From the thumbnail I thought this was a young Reptile, apparently it is not as reading your description states, that and Reptile is more a warrior than a druid caster anyway. I like that this image has like an anime cartoon cell shading style to it, but seems it has a more gentle natural blur to the shading than sharp edges. The tiny flare is a nice accent of light as a source and it is well done.

Heh, I thought this was Reptile too. I was surprised to see how much Larom resembles Reptile so much that they can be mistaken for the other.

At first I though it was Reptile from the small size, but then I saw differences, and after watching the description it was clear enough now.
Yeah this is definitly not your anime style as you used to do, but is at least a mix with some cell shadings and some little gradients. So is simple, but efficient too.
I like how you make the shapes of the characters in the darkness with a source of light ^ ^
