so eh i have a theory
if Flowey were to realize that he wasn't on Chara's/Frisk's/The Player's good side early on in the genocide run, he'd run to Asgore a lot sooner and Asgore would take a walk to figure out what to do...
...only to be greeted by large clouds of dust.
He then, on instinct, end up heading straight for the RUINS... and finds what remains of Toriel and the rest of the RUINS population.
Dust, a few pie crumbs, and a torn purple dress.

At that point, as far as he knows, he's completely alone. There's nobody left for him.
And of course... he goes back to the castle, grabs the human SOULs
...just in time to be greeted by a child coated in the dust of everyone he's cared about.
