I dunno why this took like three days but hey at l,east its done and ill stop doing any kind of personal art for a while haha
Ive wanted to draw a headcanon I;ve had for a whiel, but never really had the motivation at the right time or a real way to w/canon ponies
Back in the newly made Equestria, the different races had distinctive traits, when fully purebred that is. Back then, Pegasi had tail feathers, hoof feathers, and chest feathers, Unicorns had long tails and cloven hooves, and Earth Ponies were how we see them today.
"Half-Breeds" or "Cross-Breeds" could have any traits(though Pegasi always had tail feathers), as long as their parents were a certain race. As you can see, Stygian is the only half-breed, and in the v e r y early days of equestria this was a scandal, even with the rapidly improving relationships between the races.
The Pansy Gene, named after the famous Private Pansy, seen here in Flash Magnus, is the phenomenon of a Pegasus, or any pony crossbred with a Pegasus, having feathers not matching the coat color of the pony.
Slowly, these genes and traits all died out, why? Nopony knows, but the Pansy Gene still sometimes pops up, still running strongly in the family of the private himself, not always active, but still there.
The only times these olden times genes have been seen in full force are in Transformed Alicorns, which, for whatever odd reason, have the old genes or their former race and tail feathers suddenly added to their bodies along with transformation.
However, with the rise in denizens from other dimensions getting sent here, which, due to their otherworldly origins, have been given these traits along with their new bodies, there's a sudden resurge of these previously extinct traits.
The two main theories on the reason why this happens to these newly-transformed ponies is: 1.) Whatever made them like this, in a rush to transform them in time, has taken the earliest form(while still being the same to the-) of ponies we see today, or 2.) Whatever caused these traits to become extinct are not present in them.
