Description This creation was suppose to be my crown jewel of bionicles. It failed. I styled it to be a thin, giant mecha similar to Evas from Evangelion, and Samus Aran. But the bionicles proved to heavy and kept giving way and breaking. But as you can see below, it can pose and carry itself pretty well; the strength within the joints was perfect, but the solid areas kept breaking.

O well, I'll probably try to rebuild it again with a better style next time. But right now I'm just going to take it apart.

And just to clarify: This is NOT a finished product.

The legs look sturdy with all those piston-supports, perhaps some of those might go to use holding his torso up form the waist?

The problem was the skeleton in the legs that weren't strong enough and kept falling apart. I know how to fix every problem I had in this. I'm a much better builder now.

Likely not. I thought about it and really don't want to make this again.

well, if i gave you credit, could i use the idea of using those axe blades like that?

I don't need credit. All of my techniques are entirely free to use. At most, send me a link so I can see how you used it.

How do you build this?

Is that rhetorical or are you asking for instructions? I don't make instructions anymore.

That's a shame. This looks like it would have turned out quite nicely.

It looks so very promising.
Reminds me of my own "Crown Jewel" of Bionicle fanaticism, Veklor.

Down to the colors even.

I'm working on getting some more pieces to revamp him someday. But when I'll get around to it, I don't know.
Either way, I encourage you to keep working on this if you can. You already have a good part of it done. Though I can certainly relate with the hardships of getting large Bionicle figures to successfully stand AND pose without secondary supports.

I took this apart a very long time ago after building it for a year. Now I can do the same work in 2 days. I might try it again, if I'm ever in the mood.

Well it was a lovely torso regardless. lol

Interesting to see what you may come up with eventually.

I think...if you used Rhaksi legs as the arms?

Damn, midway into typing, the message sent somehow. Anyway, as I was saying: The point of building this was to be nearly anatomically correct. I actually made arms, but couldn't connect them in any good fashion and didn't like how they looked. The legs are what failed though. They kept coming apart and I spent too much time putting them back together. Eventually I gave up. This was 9 months after I started that I gave up.

The one question I have is, 'how did you make the joints?' I can make everything else except good joints, and I'm curious how you made these.

retinence In reply to sandstorm5490 [2009-05-06 17:04:55 +0000 UTC]

Best way to explain it is that I used 4 ball joints at the knee (2 rows of 2, all solid), 2 ball joints at the ankle (1 solid, 1 piston), and 2 ball joints for the hip (1 solid, 1 piston). Also I had a piston between the upper and lower leg.

Solid meaning: part of the main structure.
Piston meaning: the part can move up and down using the piston thing.

Posing this can get complicated but its totally worth it.

Man, I'd love to see this thing finished. Even unfinished it looks awesome! Just what was going wrong, though? >_>

retinence In reply to PhantomofAsh [2009-05-06 17:12:40 +0000 UTC]

The pieces I used for the internal structure on upper and lower legs were constantly coming apart. They couldn't take any sort of tension which after a year of building it got annoying.
